*Update* We reached our goal and Mazzie’s surgery is scheduled! Thank you to our generous supporters! 💜

Mazzie doesn’t know she’s sick and her elderly Rainier dad is scared. Her mammary tumor is growing fast and we need to help before it’s too late. The surgery will cost approximately $550.

Bark is a tiny 501c3 nonprofit that raises money for dogs in Columbia County. We always pay the vet directly and any amount over goes to the next dog. We appreciate you!

Archie & Veronica are the cherished companions of an elderly woman in Rainier living on a fixed income. We are trying to raise $500 to cover their spay and neuter. Can you help?

Your donation helps vulnerable pets and the people who love them. We also strive to keep dogs out of shelters by helping their people.

*Update* We did it! Poppy got neutered thanks to our supporters 💜

Rescued Poppy needs our help getting the snip! Poppy was neglected and left out in the cold, but was recently adopted by a loving family who convinced the owner to give her a better life. New mom needs a little help getting her spayed. Caring for animals sometimes takes a village - can you chip in a few dollars to help cover her $300 vet bill?

Happy adoption update🐾
Poppy is a Columbia County Animal Control alumni who received BARK funds years ago for critical senior medical issues. Poppy has been living the pampered high life with his doting mother.

We are so happy Poppy found his person who says she couldn’t imagine life without him ❤️. We are also grateful for BARK supporters who made this happen. Poppy may never have been adopted without his medical costs covered. Thank you!

*Update* We are humbled & grateful - our supporters are awesome! We raised enough money for Delta in a short time! 💙💜❤️🩵💚

Turn Delta’s tragic story into a happy one. Delta’s person died recently in a car accident. Thankfully a family member from St Helens offered to adopt her and give her the life she deserves even though her care poses a financial challenge.

Bark needs to raise $300 to get Delta spayed. It takes a village - we are asking for your small donation so together we can raise just enough.

Good info on what to do when you find a pet

DID YOU FIND A PET??

Important Reminder

If you find a stray pet, it’s not just a kind gesture it’s a legal and ethical responsibility to do your due diligence to help reunite it with its possible family.

Pets are legally considered property in Oregon, and failure to make a good-faith effort to locate the owner can have legal consequences, including potential theft charges.

More importantly, behind every lost pet is a possible family who may be desperately searching. Taking the time to do things right could bring relief, closure, and a reunion that means everything to someone.

Understanding Animal Holding Periods in Oregon~

In Oregon, the laws regarding the holding period for found animals especially cats can be complex and vary by county and species.

If You Find a Cat or Dog

If you find a stray pet and want to keep or rehome it yourself, you are expected to hold the animal for 90 DAYS and actively attempt to find the owner. This includes:

🔺Filing found reports with local shelters and animal control
🔺Posting on social media and websites like PawBoost, Craigslist, and local lost pet groups
🔺Hang found flyers in area found
🔺Checking for microchips or ID tags
Failure to make a good faith effort to locate the owner may put you at risk of felony theft charges, since animals are legally considered property in Oregon.
🔺Dogs: Governed by ORS 609.090

✳️ If you have concerns about its condition or appearance please understand that it is not your responsibility to decide whether or not it should be returned to its family/- leave that up to the authorities and take the pet to your local animal shelter.
Unless you personally know the pet, you have no way of knowing how long it’s been lost and on its own (which can dramatically affect appearance), age, underlying medical conditions etc
A beloved family pet can look thin, matted, sick, or scared after just a few days or even hours alone. Don’t assume neglect or abuse based on how the animal looks.

Key Takeaway~

Because laws and practices differ from county to county, it’s essential to consult your local animal control agency or an attorney to understand the specific regulations that apply in your area.

Information for every cat owner - spaying and neutering cats saves lives!

🐾 Informational Thursday — Why Spaying Your Cat Matters 🐾

As you all know, CHS strongly advocates that all cats and dogs be spayed or neutered, unless a veterinarian determines the surgery would pose a serious health risk. Today, we want to focus on the importance of spaying female cats and why it truly saves lives. ❤️

Cats are incredible at what they do — and that includes having babies. 🐱 We’ve all seen the charts: one mama cat has 5 kittens, those kittens grow up and have more kittens, and before long 5 turns into 20… then 100… and the cycle never ends. 😿 The simplest and most humane way to stop this is through spaying and neutering. ✂️🐾

Spaying helps protect your cat from painful uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal in about 90% of cases. 🏥 It’s a common procedure and usually does not change your cat’s personality or energy level. In fact, it often reduces behaviors linked to heat cycles and mating, leading to a calmer, happier pet. 🥰

Most spayed cats remain just as loving and social as before — often even more relaxed and content. 💕

Spaying does slightly slow a cat’s metabolism, which can make weight gain easier. ⚖️ But with proper portions, good nutrition, and regular playtime, your cat can stay healthy and active for years to come. 🎾🐾

📊 Spayed female cats live longer.
Average life expectancy for spayed females is 13.1 years, compared to 9.5 years for intact females. ⏳❤️

So truly, there’s no good reason not to spay your female cats. CHS is working hard to reduce the cat overpopulation crisis in Columbia County by altering every animal we take in — but we can’t do it alone.

🙏 Please be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Make those appointments. Get those cats spayed. Together, we can change lives — one paw at a time. 🐾❤️

*Update* Angel had surgery today and is doing great! Thank you supporters!💓

Hi, I’m Angel. 🐾 I’m small, but my heart is big, and I just want to protect my person. Right now, I need help. I need to be spayed, and it costs $300. Without it, I could face health issues that might stop me from living a happy life.

My owner is elderly and frail, and we live in Rainier. I’m their only source of comfort and protection. If something happened to me, I don’t know how they’d manage.

Please, I don’t want to be a burden. I just want to stay healthy so I can keep my person safe and loved. If you can help us, even a little, it would mean everything.

With love and hope,
Angel 🐾
