This is the story of Norah!
So Norah came to me in January. Mom had said that she had a couple things that she had slight issues with but not major. She said that last groomer had told her "Just talk baby talk to her and she will be fine!" About 5 minutes into the groom, I had to call mom and let her know that Norah was trying to bite and lunging at me. I let her know at that time that a pup is not going to choose how to respond to something from one groomer to another so drastically. So then we decided to come up with a plan. The plan was to get her a light seditative and unfortunately, she needed to be muzzled just for her safety as well as mine.
So with dedication from myself and mom, we knew we needed to change this girl for the better. I started grooming her with baby steps every 3-4 weeks. Mom sat there with us so that Norah knew she would be safe. Over time, mom has been able to leave and I've been able to work on her. The time before this groom, we had to stop just shy of getting her feet done and I told mom that I needed her to come back in a few days because her sedative had worn off. Mom says "On no, I completely forgot to give it to her!" She allowed me to do almost an entire groom with nothing on board! So I told mom let's only do 1/2 of her meds and I'll give it to her if I need to. That half is still in the bag!! She put her full trust in me and we got everything done!! Oh and just so you know, we have only had to use the muzzle once!
Just remember that when you are grooming, it's not how the groom makes you feel, it's about how the groom makes them feel!!! All you need is love and patience!
