This handsome Australian Shepherd boy is Steele, who just turned six years old in early June. He is neutered and up to date on preventatives. Unfortunately, Steele finds himself in need of a new home because his owner has sadly passed away unexpectedly. He is housebroken, crate-trained, rides well in the car, and weighs in at around 58 pounds. Steele has had extensive training and has an impressive list of titles in several venues, including traditional obedience, rally obedience, tricks, Fetch, and scent work: SCN4 novice level title(ASCA); ORT, NW1, and L1I(NACSW); CD, BN, RA, FDC, SWN, CGCA, CGCU, TKI, ATT, and FITG(AKC). He is quite accomplished!
But the best thing about Steele is that he would be a wonderful companion. He is quite social and loves people. He's not lived with cats so would be best without them. He might be okay with a female canine companion but no other males. Steele is on the medium to higher energy scale and will need regular, consistent exercise ; he will also need an experienced owner. His exuberance might be a bit much for younger children unless they are very dog-savvy, so over 8-9 years of age would be best. Steele sometimes has a lot to say about things. A fenced yard is preferred, but homes without one would be considered on an individual basis.
This special boy is ready to continue his path of competition success or to be the best, most devoted companion you've ever had. Whatever you want him to be, he'll be all in. He is located near Binghamton, NY, and anyone interested must travel to meet him. Although Steele is not in the ARPH program, we are helping to find him a new home. If you think that might be you, the first step would be to submit an adoption application from the ARPH website, www.aussierescue.org The adoption fee would be a donation to rescue.

Meet Twiggy! This beautiful blue merle girl is not in the ARPH program; we are assisting the owner in finding a new home without other female dogs. She might be okay with the right male but would probably be best as an only. The opposite is true with humans though, Miss Twiggy prefers women. She is four years old and weighs in at around 42 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, crate trained and house trained. A fenced yard is preferred for her safety, but homes without one will be considered on an individual basis. Kids 12 and up would be okay, but she's unknown with cats.
Twiggy is a whip smart, high energy, high drive Aussie that will need an experienced handler. She knows many commands and tricks and is easily trained. She loves going hiking and mountain biking with the adult family daughter. Her Aussie reserve makes her cautious and barky when meeting new people. But break out the treats, and she's there. She also loves toys. Twiggy is excellent in the car, at the vet's, and at the groomer's.

Check out this clever girl's video!!

In the right home, Twiggy will be an amazing companion and will form a strong bond with her people. If you think you have the time, energy, and experience to live with a real Aussie, Twiggy might be your girl. She is currently living near Putnam Valley, NY. If you are interested in adopting Twiggy, please submit an application from our website at www.aussierescue.org

This adorable boy is still looking for his forever home!! Meet River, ARPH #14663, a 20 month-old neutered red tri male with a higher energy level. He’s up to date on shots and preventatives; is housebroken and crate trained. River came to ARPH through no fault of his own from a home with two other dogs and a couple cats. Originally adopted from a shelter, he got along well with his doggy sister, but the older, intact male dog did not appreciate having River around. The situation was escalating, and the owners made the hard decision to find River a new home.
River has been very good in his crate at his foster home at night or when left alone, but he really prefers to be with his people and is quite the snuggler. He is an active boy who LOVES to play; whether it is chasing a Frisbee or ball in the yard, playing with a toy in the house, or (according to his former owners) swimming. But River also has a good off button. When you tell him playtime is over, he is quite happy to amuse himself with a toy or snuggle with you on the couch until it’s time to do something else. He loves learning new things and is very food motivated. He is learning the house rules in his foster home like waiting for permission before going out the door and what ‘get off’ means. He’s getting pretty good at that ‘ get off’ one. He already knows crate, sit, down, shake, let it go and roll-over. He was seldom on a leash in his previous home and has quite a pull. He is getting better, but his leash manners are a work in progress. River has a fair recall, but he can be easily distracted. He is also becoming comfortable enough in his foster home to alert when strangers come to the door, but once introduced he is excited to say hi and welcomes them as a new friend. River would do well in a home as an only dog or with a female playmate. He did live with dog-savvy cats but tended to resource guard with them. No children under 16. The right home would have a traditionally fenced yard and would be someone willing to take the time to continue River's training. He definitely needs regular, consistent exercise and might be able to do dog sports or tricks. He'll be a wonderful companion and a lot of fun in the right home. River is fostered in southeast PA.
Are you the perfect home for River? If so and you are already approved, please contact Kay at [email protected] If interested and have not yet been approved, ***please submit an application for adoption at www.aussierescue.org

Meet Roo! She's a sweet four year old red tri, weighing about 42.5 pounds, spayed, housebroken, crate trained, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. She's been well-loved and cared for, but through no fault of her own, she finds herself in need of a new home.
From the owner: Roo knows a number of commands, such as sit, stay, leave it, go find it, go sniff, go to place, go to crate, down, with me, and heel. Roo LOVES playing with other dogs but sometimes doesn't want to stop. She had been on a low dose of Prozac to help her settle but is currently being weaned off that. Unless the cat is very dog savvy and the person is willing to manage carefully, cats would be best without Roo. She will chase them if they run. She's been with children in her trainer's home and loves them. She rides well in a car, crated for her safety, and she has no issues at the groomer's, where her coat has been trimmed.
Roo is located in southern New Jersey. If you are interested in adopting her, please contact Kay, who is screening homes for the owner, at [email protected]

Unfortunately, our boy Silas was returned to rescue today because the cats were not accepting him. :( So he's available again.
This handsome boy is Silas, ARPH #14662! Just turned four years old on 12/29, this neutered blue merle was well-loved but came to rescue when his family lost their home. Silas weighs around 55 pounds and is up to date on preventatives. He knows sit, down, come, shake/paw, and stay, although not always reliably. He was housebroken and crate trained in his previous home, but he does complain if crated now in his busy foster home; he's afraid he's going to miss something!Silas was raised with children; a home with them would be considered on an individual basis. He is good with other dogs but no cats for him. Never having been taught leash manners, he's a bulldozer on leash so would need work on that. He enjoys riding in the car but needs a reminder to wait before jumping out. He loved going to Petco to choose a toy. Silas loves beef chew bones, toys, and playing fetch, although he's not always willing to give the toy/ball back.Silas is very food motivated and learns quickly. He's very affectionate, gives kisses, and loves to snuggle until it's time to do something; then he's eager to go and do whatever you ask of him.Silas is on the higher end of moderate energy so will need regular, consistent exercise. A traditionally fenced yard is preferred so he can exercise safely. Fortunately, he's got a good off switch inside. He will make a wonderful companion that will be totally devoted to his owner. He is fostered near Bath, PA. If you are already approved, please contact Kay at [email protected] If interested and not approved, please submit an application from our website at https://www.aussierescue.org/

ADOPTED!!! Silas #14662 has been adopted by a wonderful woman who's retired and can give him all the love and attention he craves. :) He's one of the nicest dogs we've had in a long time. Huge thanks to Leslie Rose for fostering him(after he landed in her lap! LOL) and to Letha Boust for the great home. Special thanks to Pat Dwyer for the collage. :)
