This is Raude, one of our oldest and most beloved therapy horses here at GaitWay. She is need of some special medical testing so we are asking our friends and community for help with this expense. If you find yourself able and moved to donate toward her care, the total cost is approximately $500 and we would be deeply grateful! What we do would not be possible without our wonderful “Equine Therapists” like Raude! You can donate via our Venmo or visit our website www.gaitway.org and click the red Donate button!

Volunteering at an equine-assisted therapy farm offers unique and rewarding experiences. Here are some reasons why you should consider volunteering at such a place:

1. Helping People: Equine-assisted therapy farms provide therapy and support to individuals with physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges. By volunteering, you can directly contribute to improving the lives of these individuals. Working with horses and assisting in therapy sessions can have a profound impact on their well-being and progress.

2. Connection with Animals: Horses are incredible animals that can form strong bonds with humans. Volunteering at an equine-assisted therapy farm allows you to spend time with these majestic creatures, develop a connection with them, and witness the therapeutic power they have on individuals. It can be a fulfilling experience to see the positive effects that the interaction between horses and humans can have.

3. Learning Opportunities: Volunteering at an equine-assisted therapy farm provides a unique opportunity to learn about horses, their behavior, and their role in therapy. You can gain knowledge about equine-assisted therapy techniques, horse care, and handling. These skills can be valuable if you are interested in pursuing a career in therapy, animal-assisted interventions, or equine-related fields.

Good evening!
We really really hate to do this the first day of class. With the incoming weather I don’t want to risk any of you being on the road so we have made the choice to not have class tomorrow and we will start next Monday, Martin Luther King day and we’ll add class will be 8 weeks from then.
I’m really sorry about this, I just rather air on the side of caution and upside to doing so it’ll probably be a beautiful day 🥴

We still have several spots open for our homeschool class that starts on the 8th! We would love for you to join us!

Equine-assisted services (EAS) have been found to have several benefits for veterans. Some of the major benefits include:

1. Emotional well-being: Interacting with horses can help veterans improve their emotional well-being. Horses are highly intuitive animals and can sense and respond to human emotions. This can provide a sense of calm, comfort, and emotional support to veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges.

2. Physical health: Equine-assisted services involves physical activities such as grooming, feeding, and riding horses. These activities can help improve balance, coordination, strength, and overall physical fitness. Engaging in physical tasks with horses can also promote relaxation and reduce muscle tension.

3. Social interactions: Equine-assisted services often involve group sessions, which provide opportunities for veterans to interact with each other and build supportive relationships. Working together with horses and other participants can enhance social skills, communication, teamwork, and trust, which are essential for successful reintegration into civilian life.

4. Self-confidence and empowerment: Successfully interacting with horses and learning to communicate effectively with them can boost veterans' self-confidence and self-esteem. Horses are non-judgmental and provide immediate feedback, which allows veterans to develop a sense of accomplishment and empowerment.

5. Coping and problem-solving skills: Equine-assisted services require veterans to adapt to unpredictable situations and solve problems in real-time. This can help them develop valuable coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities, which can be applied to various aspects of their lives.

6. Mindfulness and stress reduction: Being around horses and engaging in activities with them can promote mindfulness and help veterans focus on the present moment. This can provide a reprieve from intrusive thoughts, worries, and stress, promoting relaxation and overall well-being.

Overall, equine-assisted services offer a unique and effective approach to support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of veterans. It can complement traditional forms of therapy and contribute to their overall rehabilitation and recovery.
