🎃🐾 Happy Howloween from Do Better Training and our very handsome foster boy, Domino! 🐾🎃

Domino is happy to show off a few tricks for treats, but what he’s really hoping to find is a family of his own! 🧡 He’s available for adoption through A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter, and we’d love to see this sweet boy spending the holidays at home with his people.

While Domino works on charming his future family, here are a few reminders to keep tonight fun for everyone:

🚪 Secure those doors! Trick-or-treaters mean lots of opening and closing. Keep a secure barrier between your pets and the entrance so curious noses can’t slip outside.

🏡 Offer a cozy retreat. A comfortable space away from the excitement, with familiar bedding, calming music, and a favorite chew or puzzle, can make the evening much more enjoyable.

🏷️ Check their identification. Make sure pets are wearing securely fitted collars with current ID tags.

🦸 Costumes are optional! Not everyone wants to dress up. Watch their body language and respect their preferences—they’re already adorable in their everyday outfits!

🐾🌈 Día de los Mu***os de las Mascotas— Honoring the Animals We've Loved and Lost 🌈🐾

Some souls leave paw prints, some leave hoofprints, and some leave feathers upon our hearts. But all leave love that even death cannot take away.

They come into our lives in all the wonderful shapes and forms that love can take. And somehow, without ever speaking our language, they become some of the most important parts of our world.

They know our routines, our moods, our joys, and our sorrows. They teach us to be patient, to be present, to find happiness in the smallest moments, and to love without needing words. They become woven into the fabric of our everyday lives so completely that it's difficult to remember what life looked like before them.

And when we lose them, we don't simply lose a pet. We lose a companion, a familiar presence, a relationship unlike any other. We lose the sound of their footsteps, the comfort of their breathing nearby, the little rituals and quiet moments that made a life together so extraordinary.

The grief we feel is a reflection of the depth of that connection. These relationships are real, profound, and deserving of every bit of love and mourning we give them.

Today, on the day we honor the animals who have crossed before us, we remember every beloved soul who made our lives a little fuller, our hearts a little softer, and our world a little more beautiful.

May we always carry a little of who they were in who we become. May their love continue to shape the way we move through this world, the kindness we offer, and the joy we find in the smallest things. And may the love we shared with them never feel smaller simply because they are no longer beside us.

Because love like that doesn't disappear. It changes us, becomes part of us, and stays with us in ways that even time cannot undo.

Last night, we lost one of our own. 💔

Andy and Rick’s beloved pony, Sparrow, became suddenly ill and, despite veterinary care and their efforts to help her, passed away early this morning. She was deeply loved, and her loss has left a tremendous hole in their hearts.

We’re postponing this Sunday’s Halloween party to give them some time to grieve. Thank you for your kindness and understanding. ❤️

🎃 We’ll share an update once we’ve had a chance to regroup and confirm a new date.

🎉💖 One whole year of Mimi! 💖🎉

Mimi has officially been part of our Day School family for a year, and we couldn’t be prouder of this sweet superstar! 🌟

She’s learned so much and come so far, and we’ve loved getting to know all the little things that make Mimi, Mimi. From playing with her friends to happily working with our trainers—or figuring out a good puzzle—she brings so much joy to our days. 🐾🧩

But the sweetest part has been watching her grow and thrive, with an amazing family cheering her on at home. Getting to be a small part of her world is something we treasure. 💕

Happy one-year anniversary, Mimi! We love you, we’re so proud of you, and we can’t wait for many more days of learning, friendship, and fun together! 🥰🎊

Dogs will make you better… if you let them. 🐾💛

But we have to make room inside ourselves to be changed.

It’s easy to enter a relationship with a dog carrying a picture of who we want them to be. We have our routines, our preferences, our ideas about how they should behave. So much of traditional training centers on shaping the dog to fit that picture. And sometimes, what we’re asking for amounts to being a little less dog.

Less curious. Less expressive. Less interested in the things that make their world worth exploring.

What happens when we loosen our grip on that picture? 🌿

When we embrace our dogs for who they are, we have the opportunity to see the world through another creature’s eyes. To take their experiences seriously. To share in something simply because it matters to them, even when we don’t fully understand it.

There is something beautifully uncomplicated about a dog’s joy. A good smell deserves time. A familiar friend deserves celebration. An invitation to play is worth accepting. They can be so fully present in an experience we might have walked right past. ✨

Letting ourselves join them asks us to soften a little. To question our assumptions. To recognize that our way of experiencing the world is only one way—and that we have something to learn from theirs.

That willingness can make us more empathetic, more curious, more open. It can make us lighter. But we have to let their experience change our own. 💜

We can teach the skills that help us live together while still honoring everything that makes them dogs. We can make space for their preferences, their feelings, and their joy. We can enter the relationship willing to grow alongside them.

Our dogs give us so many opportunities to become something more.

We have to be willing to leave room for who they are—and let that change who we are. 🐕🌈

When we know better, we do better. 💛

🎉🐱 A big cheer for Bliss and the wonderful team who helped make her veterinary visit a success! 💜🩺

Thank you to Dr. Oriold and Maria at Loyal Companionsfor their patience, kindness, and thoughtful care of our very expressive girl! 🌟

Bliss has feline hyperesthesia, and being touched isn’t something she readily welcomes. Andy has spent years getting creative with her care at home, using target training, stationing, and targeted enrichment to give Bliss choices and appropriate outlets for her enthusiastic little predator side! 🐾🎯🐆

Veterinary visits have always been challenging. While Bliss has come a long way, she still needs a sensitive, calm approach and plenty of patience while she settles in and shares her opinions. And she certainly has opinions! 😹💬

Dr. Oriold and Maria did an amazing job listening to her, moving at her pace, and helping her feel more comfortable. There was whipped cream, there was thoughtful care, and there was a clean bill of health! 😻🍦🎉

Progress doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to work on. Every experience is another opportunity to build comfort and trust, and we’re so grateful to have people in Bliss’s corner who understand that how she feels matters. 💕🐾
