🌿🛋️ National Relaxation Day 🛋️🌿
Let’s hear it for doing nothing! 🙌🐶
The truth is, relaxing doesn’t always come naturally — especially for our dogs. Just like we need practice winding down, so do they.
✨ The good news?
You can teach relaxation like any other skill — with patience, reinforcement, and a cozy vibe.
Here are a few ways we help our dogs settle:
🎵 Use context cues like soft music, dimmed lights, cozy mats, and calming scents to set the scene
🧠 Offer relaxing enrichment like long-lasting chews, snuffle mats, or lickable treats
🧘♂️ Try a structured Relaxation Protocol (like Suzanne Clothier’s Really Real Relaxation or Karen Overall’s Protocol)
🛑 Most importantly: reward calm, still bodies and soft eyes just like you’d reward a sit or a recall!
With consistency, your dog will start to associate those cues with chill time — and before you know it, “do nothing” becomes a favorite activity 💚
So today, embrace the flop. The slow blink. The deep sigh.
Because rest is training, and it matters 🐾💤
