Dogs Who Sail + National Parks + Marine Parks = A BIG conversation.
You will notice a knock on the door part way through the interview. Richard was notified of a stranded dugong in the bay. He was notified again near the end of Part 1 that the dugong had died and he had to step away from the interview to attend to the situation. All part of being a Ranger. 😢

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT DOGS & CORONAVIRUS

I have received a number of posts about pets being abandoned and euthanised due to fears of them or the owner contracting Coranavirus.

Yesterday I made contact with Dogs Who Sail preferred animal welfare and veterinary service, Animal Welfare League Queensland who kindly have the following statement to share. 💖🐶⛵

Animal Welfare League Queensland has not experienced an increase in demand for surrenders or enquiries for euthanasia's through our Community Vet Clinics as a direct result of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

We are aware this is a topic of mixed opinions and refer to the below World Organisation for Animal Health statement:

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health, there is no evidence, to date, that companion animals can transmit coronavirus (COVID-19) to people. It is possible that the virus could be carried on their coat or other body parts if they have interacted with an infected person. To protect yourself, and your pet, don't allow your pets to roam or meet new people. Continue to practice good personal hygiene during interactions with animals. This includes washing your hands before and after interactions or handling animal food, waste or supplies.

In addition, to protect each other and our communities, AWLQ encourages people to adhere to Australian Government recommendations and limit their potential to spread coronavirus (COVID-19) – practice social distancing when exercising your pet(s).

Companion animals provide much needed support, comfort and companionship to people in these difficult times, so it is important that people and their pets stick together during these challenging times

As a global community, please check with your local vets and we will continue to monitor WHO news on pets as well as stay in close contact with the wonderful Animal Welfare League Queensland.
