It’s with deepest sadness that with this post, I report the loss and passing of my horse, Sergeant.

We lost Sergeant late last week, when he went down, and just couldn’t find the strength to stay back on his feet. It’s taken me several days to mourn, and try to find the right words to let everyone know just how much he meant to me, and how much he will be missed.

Sergeant, was an amazing horse that I fell in love with early last year, when he came into our barn as a rescue horse we were fostering. I could immediately feel this horses energy and troubled past, and we connected automatically.

After him pacing all night and not eating, I was finally able to get him to calm down, and follow me over to his feed bucket where I hand fed him his entire bucket.

As a veteran who suffers from PTSD, I could see and feel the same energy coming from him. It got to the point where I could pull into our barn parking lot, and he would nicker and neigh because he knew the sound of my truck engine, and that I was back to love on him and play and work a little with him.

Early spring of last year, I was fortunate enough to adopt him, and we moved to a new place to grow our barn family and give the horses a place to call their own.

He was the only horse that would run across the field to meet me at the gate when I pulled in… He is who I prayed with over my kids and family everyday, as I brushed him out every morning and feed time, just to watch him go and roll back in the dirt when I was done. He was a character, and was so much fun.

He was an old horse, but he was an amazing horse, and one I trusted my prayers and thoughts with.

I will miss you everyday buddy, and you will never be forgotten. I hope your last year here with me, was a memorable one, and hopefully I will see you again, when I cross those pearly gates.

- Tim
