As usual, I made new animal friends today! Loretta fell asleep in my arms as I fell in love with her. Reba, her mom, did not seem concerned that I was plotting her baby's KIDnapping! Waylon, the Highpark bull was mostly interested in treats and scritches.

I'm taking a short vacation to soothe my soul. Today I watched eagles catch fish, loons swim and dive, gulls be annoying, and woodpeckers get insects. It's incredibly peaceful here, but I know I'll be ready to get back to "my" pack in a day or two!

I had a lovely vacation in Northern Michigan.
I made friends with an Owl Butterfly, watched some quails work, and learned about cool bugs.

The wildfire smoke was very, very bad, but we made the best of my last day and visited some wineries and a gorgeous lavender field.

Now it's back to work! (I reallllllly missed "my" dogs!)

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!
Over the course of about 3 years, I have done 100+ drop-ins for Shadow and her far less shy sister.
Shadow would literally hide from me for the first year or so.
Then she'd sometimes be in her cat bed (I don't have the time to count all those photos!), but she'd hiss then run if I got too close.
Just this year, she began allowing me to put some treats on the edge of her bed. PROGRESS!
I've been dropping in daily for the past 3 weeks, and just two days ago, she stayed in her cat tower instead of cowering in her bed. She allowed me to put treats right in front of her. Yesterday, she ate the treats while I was a foot or two away!
HUGE PROGRESS!
Today, my final day of drop-ins, she immediately flirted with me! I knew right then that today was going to be THE. DAY.!
And it was! She let me pet her, she rolled around in pure bliss, she purred like crazy, and she even talked to me!
Shadow, you're a tough nut to crack and your timing was hilarious. I admire your stubborn catitude.

This is NOT my photo (credit to u/DoomsdayDebby), but I can imagine** the scenario in my house this morning:
Bob Dylan (big void and resident instigator) sniffed out an open pouch (haphazardly left by, ahem, me) and sprinkled that happy dust across the living room.
Cue Cheeto, our resident elderly blind, arthritic, pee-pad* goin' gal. She's ALL IN on the aforementioned purrrrrrrty! But, and I'm speaking to any ladies of a certain age here, she used the facilities(ish) before she purrrtied.

Anyway, the after-purrty was gross, and I've since learned that "dry shampoo for cats" is an important thing to have. And also to keep the drugs hidden from the residents.

* Much like a dude, Cheeto isn't always hitting her target

** My son was the first to arrive on scene and therefore the "cleaner"
