Haven Dog Rescue

Haven Dog Rescue Our goal with every dog is to find the perfect family match so that they are lovingly cared for the rest of their lives.

Please consider making a donation today to assist our efforts and save more dogs in the greater Sacramento area! We typically pull our dogs from local shelters that are labeled un-adoptable. We work on their issues and prepare them for entering a regular home life. Sometimes its a short process and sometimes it take several months or even longer. We are 501c3 non profit, so donations are tax deduc

tible. We have an adoption screening process and we perform home checks for all families wishing to take our dogs. There is also an adoption fee which helps us pay for vet, grooming, and food bills for our dogs. All our staff are volunteers and are motivated solely by the love they have for our dogs and the determination they have to finding them a great forever home. Buckle up for some hard truths.

Shelters across the US are in crisis. Many are so full they’ve had to stop taking animals.

This is not a shelter problem. It’s a community problem.

FACTS:
Animals are being surrendered and abandoned faster than they’re adopted.
They’re being bred faster than we can save them.
They’re being given up on faster than we can rehome them.

If your local shelter is overflowing or forced to euthanize for space, it isn’t because they don’t care. It’s because the community has to do better.

What can help?

✔ Education about behavior, socialization, dog body language, effective training methods and bite prevention
✔ Resources for families adding babies/kids to homes with dogs
✔ Pet food pantries & community support
✔ Low-cost spay/neuter, microchipping & TNR programs
✔ More fosters, adopters & volunteers
✔ Honest conversations about future care if pets outlive us
❌ Less backyard breeding and puppy mills
❌ Less housing breed restrictions
❌ Less irresponsible, fly by night "rescues"
❌ Less aversive trainers making behavior issues worse by suppressing communication and body language

We don’t need to blame shelters. We need to step up as communities.

😍🐾 Wilford Brimley is looking for a home that can provide love and cuddles for the rest of his last years. He is totally blind and is recovering from flea anemia, but otherwise doing great! This senior is sooooo sweet, always listening for where you are so he can get some pettings from you. He likes to sit on the couch next to you and hang out while you rub his head and back. He would make a great homebody companion to live out the rest of his days! Please fill out an application if you would like to know more!

Get your animals fixed and stop this suffering.

💔 This sweet mama came in without her puppies. Our Animal Control Officer searched everywhere, but she didn’t lead us to them.

Her body tells the story — she’s still full of milk, but with no babies to feed. One of our staff members took her home to help manually express her milk so she could have some relief.

Please, please spay and neuter your pets. No animal should have to go through this.

🙏🙂Thank you to Adventures in Petsitting with Miss Alicia for the amazing donation of toys, collars and other supplies for our dog rescue! Every bit helps us rescue more dogs who would otherwise not be given a second chance. 🐾

If you or your organization would like to donate supplies to help us with our mission, we can always use clean dog beds, small collars (even cat collars are great for our itty bitty dogs) and healthy treats! ☺️

Gracie, originally named Cupid, has found a name that truly suits her gentle nature. Since joining her new foster home, she has shown nothing but sweetness and affection.

Though her house training was uncertain at first, Gracie has not had a single accident indoors during her first week. Regular trips outside every two to three hours help support her success.

Gracie's past, like many rescues, is tinged with hardship. It took months to trap her and her pups after suspected abandonment. She is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which is fully funded, and she is expected to make a full recovery. A potential adopter would need to bring her to her vet appointments for a few months.

Gracie manages brief periods of being alone, up to three hours, by resting quietly beside her canine companion. She is a cuddler and prefers to always be near her person. For those seeking a devoted lap dog, Gracie is an ideal fit!

Gracie interacts well with our other rescue dogs and enjoys exploring the backyard, quietly observing her surroundings. She does not dig or chew, and there have been no signs of food aggression; she patiently waits for treats and takes them gently from your hand. Her first bark was heard recently, likely influenced by another dog who barks at passersby.

Gracie's behavior around cats is unknown. She isn’t good on a leash yet but does better with a harness and may improve with patience. At 13 pounds, she’s manageable even if she resists at times. With time and consistency, leash skills usually improve, as seen with other rescues.

Anyone interested in meeting Gracie or learning more about her is encouraged to fill out an adoption application and we will reach out to share additional information. She truly deserves a loving forever home!
