Strangles Update!!

Thanks to early detection, strict quarantine protocols, and an amazing team of vets, staff, farriers, and diligent horse owners, we are proud to report that our single strangles-positive horse was quickly isolated, we achieved an impressive 0% transmission rate to any other horses, and we are now free from quarantine, with the exception of the affected horse, which remains symptom-free under isolation and should be cleared hopefully in a week and a half. Well done Team Driftwood and thanks to everyone involved for their diligence, tolerance, and cooperation 💪🏼

Strangles Notice:

Regrettably we inform the horse community that we have a horse positive with Strangles at Driftwood Equestrian in Rye, New Hampshire.

We are working together with Great Bay Equine and New Hampshire State Veterinarians to contain this case and stop any spread from occurring. The affected horse is doing well and being kept alone in a separate barn away from all other horses. Biosecurity protocols are in place.

Currently all horses at Driftwood Equestrian will remain under quarantine until June 25 assuming we do not have any other symptomatic horses. The affected horse will be released upon testing negative and being cleared by our vets.

At this time we are not able to accept any horses who ship in for lessons and anyone who comes to the farm needs to shower and change before going to another barn or coming in contact with people from other barns.

We hope that making this information public will help spread awareness and let our neighbors know that we are taking the situation seriously and doing everything we can to keep this from spreading.
