🐾 Happy Furry Friend Friday! 🐾
Every Friday, we highlight one of the amazing dogs or cats currently in our care who is searching for their forever home. This week, we’d love for you to meet Steve! ❤️
Steve is one of our long-term cat residents, and he has been patiently waiting for his forever home for 129 days. That’s 129 days of waiting, hoping, and wondering when his person is going to walk through the door. We know the right family is out there for Steve, and we’re determined to help him find them!
Steve originally came to us as a stray, but he wasn’t completely on his own. Someone in the community had been looking after him and had already made sure he was neutered and up to date on his rabies vaccine. However, they noticed that Steve was suffering from a pretty bad upper respiratory infection (URI), so they reached out for help and Steve came into our care.
While Steve has been with us, we’ve learned a little more about his health. Steve tested positive for both FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). We know those words can sound scary, but they don’t change how deserving Steve is of a loving home. FIV affects a cat’s immune system, and many FIV-positive cats can go on to live happy, fulfilling lives with regular veterinary care and monitoring. FeLV is a virus that can weaken a cat’s immune system and may lead to other health complications. Neither FIV nor FeLV can be transmitted to people or dogs.
Because Steve is FeLV positive, he would need to be the only cat in his home unless he is living with another cat who is also FeLV positive and an appropriate match. We want to make sure Steve has a safe environment where he can thrive, but being FIV and FeLV positive does not mean he has any less love to give. Steve deserves someone who will look past a diagnosis and see the sweet, deserving cat underneath it all.
Steve is up to date on his core vaccines (FVRCP and Rabies), has been dewormed, is on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, already neutered, and will be microchipped before he leaves our care! 💉🐾
