Adopted! London Has Found Her Forever Home!

We are over the moon to announce that London, our sweet Pit Bull and Boston Terrier mix, has officially been adopted today—and her forever home is with Hannah!

Hannah has been with London every step of the way, pouring her heart into socializing and caring for this special girl. From trips to the farm to meet other dogs, to giving London the chance to just be herself and experience the world, Hannah’s dedication has helped London become the happy, confident pup she is now.

It’s clear that London and Hannah are meant to be. They’ve formed an unbreakable bond, and there’s no better person for London to spend her life with.

Hannah, you’ve given London a second chance, and we know she’s going to fill your life with so much love and joy. Here’s to many more adventures, cuddles, and memories with your new best friend! 🐾🌟

We couldn’t be happier for both of you! 🥳

The “so far” update on Milo Red following his surgery a week ago: Check out the nubby tail! Ron, his foster dad, says, “Tail looks great. Stitches come out end of next week. Zero spinning. Letting me know when he has to potty. Acting like a boy. Energy level through the roof! He can climb the kennel walls. Going to have to be watched with a fence. I think he'd do well in agility or some other sport, in the right hands.”

Yay for the progress! We are still praying that this is all Milo needed! to adopt, Milo Red, please start with an application from our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.

Check out our FRIENDS! These 10-week-old puppies were signed over to the shelter yesterday. They are social and very healthy, and we want to make sure they stay that way. We would love to do adoptions now before they spend too much time at the shelter. We would ask that adopters plan to keep their puppy quarantined at home for a couple weeks, until we can make sure they get the second shots. That will be included in their adoption fee of $175. We recommend families with children over the age of five, and we ask that you live in Campbell County or a county touching Campbell so that we can follow guidelines of the shelter and follow up on spay and neuter.

Applications are found here: www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.

What’s up with Lee?

He’s feeling mighty fine since his neuter, and he wants everyone to know what an awesome companion he’s going to be. He’s not the best with other male dogs, but might be fine with a laid back female.

He’s fantastic with humans! And he would like to be one of those dogs that hangs out with you in the house, goes out for a walk in a nice fenced yard area, and comes back to be your Bestie.

Please give him a chance! Apply to adopt by going to our website, www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.

It’s been a week. This post was on the Friends of Campbell County in Tennessee, posted by their director, and I requested permission to share it with a few revisions. The words are theirs, but the situations are true at every shelter I know.

“FB is always asking what's on our minds...
FB would probably be scared.

*Animal sheltering is really rewarding. Animal sheltering is really heartbreaking.

*Animal sheltering is tiring. Animal sheltering is energizing.

*Believe it or not, we are humans with families, lives, and crises, just like most of you. We didn't create the animal welfare mess that we see every day. We are simply trying to clean it up in our little corner of the world.

*Animal sheltering is hard. We can't please everyone. We are condemned for not allowing some potential adopters to adopt because they don't meet our adoption requirements, That same day we get bashed for adopting a dog to your neighbor who leaves the dog outside all day and he barks and climbs the fence while his parents aren't home.

*People complain that animal control picked up their dog that was playing in traffic. Other people complain that we aren't picking up enough animals.

*We sometimes ask owners to hold a dog due to overcrowding until we have enough space to take in the pup, but others don’t bat an eye when they are told honestly their dog may be euthanized for space.

*The community thinks a dog out and about is a stray and should be taken to the shelter, regardless of where they are seen. Yet then we hear, “Don’t kill that dog!”

*Take in all of the unwanted animals in this community but don't euthanize anything. How would that even work? What size facility would we need? How many staff? How much money would it take to fund such a place?

**Animal sheltering is hard. I'm not gonna lie. Some days are hard. Some days are harder. Yesterday was one of those harder days. Compassion fatigue is real. If it takes a reset every now and then, that is what we will do. Please support us and give us a little grace. We will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, squeeze our pack a little harder and get right back to the job at hand. To our wonderful, unrelenting supporters, thank you! We appreciate every one of you.”

Thanks to the Director, Friends of Campbell County. TN, for her insight, and for allowing us to share. We are all in this together.

30 Days of photos, reasons we need a new animal shelter: SPACE!

Day 23: We are hoping you are following our photo series even though we have skipped a few days between the last few posts.

The LOBBY is where “stuff happens.”

There’s no other place to use when it comes to medicating, behavior assessment, intake of animals, adoptions, collecting donations…

BARCC is a non-profit whose purpose is to alert residents of the need for a new updated animal shelter, and to raise $$ for that purpose. Don’t be left behind! To find out how to donate and to follow the progress of the fundraising efforts, go here: www.barccmeow.com

Puppy found near the Leesville Dam, Taylors Road, last weekend stopped eating, was lethargic, and lymph glands were swollen. An overnight at the vet office yielded the information that he had a bite wound that had become infected but had not been discovered earlier because of the location. Good news is that he is being treated, and drains have been inserted to help the infection clear up! Thank goodness he was found when he was. If you’re missing a five month old beagle/hound puppy from the area, please let us know. He is not at the shelter, however, as he was taken in by an FOAC volunteer rather than through Campbell County animal control. You are welcome to message our page.

Volunteers who have a keen eye for details are essential when they observe behaviors during the day when they spend time with the dogs and cats.

Our focus on Wednesday and Thursday was on this gal named “Honey” by the family who found her on Eastbrook Road. Her initial exam showed her ears were crusty and bloody, and she carried her tail out away from her body when she walked. Additionally, she strained when she needed to potty outside, and production was sporadic.

Thanks to Kelly for commenting on her inability to defecate, because it gave us a clue to what could be going on. We are not vets, and we do not have a vet employed on staff. What we do have are skilled volunteers who have been doing this for many years, and have seen the worst things possible in rescue. We looked over photos of Honey, and realized she has one of the worst cases of tapeworms we had ever seen. Tapeworms are one of those parasites that are not easily observed, unless you actually see them in the dog’s f***s at the time of toileting. But once we saw her a**l area up close and personal, we treated her immediately with medication to take care of the tapeworms, and have begun treating her with antibiotics for her torn up ears. We can’t wait to see the progress she makes, as she begins to feel better on a daily basis. she has been so grateful for attention, food, and being separated from that playful three month old puppy of hers. We look forward to giving her time to heal. To keep up with her progress you can follow her on our Facebook posts, and if this gorgeous girl ends up needing a home because her owner does not find her at the shelter, you can find an application on our website: www.friendsofcampbellcounty.org.
