Here is our “Microchips save lives, but you need to register them” reminder!
Two days ago we received a phone call and a 24 Pet Watch notice that a dog with a chip coming back to FOAC as the purchaser/inserter had been picked up as a stray in Pittsburgh. The animal control officer described her as a chow-looking female, red, 12 1/2 years old.
We keep records, but we did not have a spreadsheet with records from 2016, as we just started in 2018 keeping up with that. However, we did look back through our well-kept website and were able to find that Paige had been transferred to a rescue in New Jersey in 2016. We were able to convey that information to the officer in Pittsburgh, who felt the likelihood of reconnecting Paige and her adopter would be good since the family who found Paige and turned her in had seen someone looking in the neighborhood earlier for her.
We always help with the process of registration when folks adopt from us for this very reason. Not everyone is responsible enough to do this, but when we know it saves lives, we feel it is in our best interest to get things started.
Now it’s up to the adopters! Do the right thing and make sure your microchips have registered! We hope Paige will soon be home.
