Meet Dumpling 🐾
Dumpling came as a short‑term board‑and‑train / evaluation case and will eventually be looking for a forever home once finished with her tune‑up. She’s in East St. Louis, IL.
She’s a medium‑large mixed breed girl who reads very much like a Bloodhound Ɨ Golden type cross: big feelings, big nose. Since landing here she’s been:
• Crate trained and solid on a routine
• House‑reliable with supervised freedom
• Tether trained in the house
• Neutral to my other dogs and respectful of space
• Calm around my poultry and farm noise
She is still decompressing and I’m taking things slow with her, especially handling around her back end and grooming. She’s sensitive to brushing and a lot of ā€˜scary things’ right now and still a little unsure about busy traffic, but she’s already made a huge glow‑up on leash and is walking without panic or dragging in just over a week. She’s such a sweet dog who just needs a calmer owner willing to take her at her pace
Right now this is just a ā€˜soft launch’ / introduction so folks can see who she is while we keep working. When she’s officially available I’ll post updated info, adoption fee, and requirements. For now, enjoy the bootyscratch goblin and her goofy Grinch toes.

The first girl is here. Tiramisu(aka:rue)
Someone reached out to us regarding This girl. She was originally adopted at a shelter but when they ran into issues the shelter couldn’t take her back due to overflow. This is why I’m starting this program to help dogs get into homes with training to ensure they’re a good fit. Way to often I see posts of people rehoming due to ā€˜they’re getting into my trash’ ā€˜they’re jumping on me’ ā€˜they’re biting me all the time’ ā€˜they keep using bathroom on floor’ etc. all those are behaviors of a dog who hasn’t been shown what’s required of them. Dogs with no structure. Overstimulated or a large range of similar ā€˜easy fixes’
This girl has suck a great base even only being here 2days. She’s catching into the training fast and based on that she’ll likely be ready for a permanent home a lot sooner than most dogs that will pass through. She already knows sit. She knows to wait for food. She jumps but 1x takes a correction and stops immediately. She needs confidence boost but past owner said she was living with other dogs. Kids and came with a crate and potty trained. All dogs that go through my program will be crate trained and basic manners along with recommendations on best fit home. We gotta get used to each other more before I have that info but based on intake notes and how she was with only hr decompression time she’s gonna be a phenomenal pet to someone one day

I’m officially opening spots for a small Board & Train program here at CaPPS/CritterCraze. My first few dogs are arriving soon, and they’ll be our ā€˜pilot group’ while I build this out. These dogs will be working on:
– Basic manners
– Leash skills
– House rules / crate work
– Extra goals (if they’re ready)

Dogs in my program live in the house, follow a structured crate and tether routine, and get real‑life practice around other animals, not just drills in a sterile room.
Once they’re settled in, I’ll be sharing:
– Before/after updates
– What each dog is working on
– A sample daily schedule
If you’ve been thinking about Board & Train for your own dog and want on the waitlist while I’m building this first round, comment here or message the page and tell me a little about your dog: age, breed, and what you’re struggling with. I’ll update this post with photos and details of the first group as soon as they land:
Dog #1: __________
Dog #2: __________
Dog #3: __________

Thanks for helping me get this program off the ground

End of an era over here at Critter Craze/CaPPs🐾
Havoc the B&T hound has officially wrapped up his board‑and‑train and headed home to his person. He came to me as a freelance disaster with:
– zero crate manners
– big feelings about other dogs
– a nose that kept getting him into trouble
– and a whole lot of energy in a farm environment
While he was here we worked on:
– solid crate and tether rules (house is a privilege!)
– long‑line walks around livestock without trying to body‑check the poultry
– basic obedience with real‑life distractions
– settling in the house instead of pacing and whining
– baby service‑dog‑in‑training skills like ignoring people and focusing on his handler
Now he’s heading home with a human who knows his rules, his routine, and how to advocate for a smart, nose‑driven working dog in a busy household.
Dogs like Havoc help keep my little homestead running – every board‑and‑train helps feed rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, and the retired service dog on my couch.

Drop a pic of your dog in the comments and tell me:
What’s ONE thing you wish they understood better – crate time, leash walking, recall, living with livestock, or something spicier? šŸ‘€
I might pull a few for future training breakdown posts.ā€

This is a PSA for anyone that thinks shelter dogs are shut down. This is havoc. He was pulled from a shelter and is now in bird and train for service dog work. At the shelter they said he was a 3 on scale of dog friendly. He didn’t respond well on their test and we took the chance anyway. I have 3 personal dogs 12yo intact male. 7yo spayed female and 2yo intact female.
When he first came home they were all introduced to each other on leash at a distance. They really only saw each other. No nose touch. No sniffing just looking. My friends intact male Great Dane puppy was also over. Havoc Growled at every single dog. We gave them time. All 4 crated in same room. They could see and sniff each other but not access each other. They sensed energy and personality and this is him and my intact female now about month later. They’re obsessed with each other. They play hard core. Throwing each other into walls and having the best puppy time they can. He was put into the shelter young adopted. Returned multiple times. He nipped me out of fear at the beginning but soon learned the house rules. Boundaries and respected them he still has a ways to go but as of now I can confirm he is best friends with intact female and very respectful of seniors. The seniors will occasionally ask him to play and he does a sweet play bow and bounces with them. Than the 2yo gets involved and he plays hard core. He has learned play intensity for each dog and they all respect him for it. Meanwhile the female hasn’t quite figured it out and she’s been here 2yrs. All dogs are different but this is just to show never judge a shelter dog by way they act in the shelter. Had I taken the rating the shelter gave him I would t be able to work with this amazing boy. He’s caught onto manners fast when he first got here he had a bad jumping problem. Jumped on people out of excitement if on chain he’d parkour into the air and bark/howl for hrs. He now waits with open crate door to be invited out. Walks out calmly and sits to let you put his leash on sits politely at doorways(needs reminders sometimes ) and when on chain sits calmly and waits for you to come get him after he potties. He’s getting a lot better on leash. He’s so much better and dosnt jump on people even tho you can see him bunny bounce front feet from memory but he’s made a 180 in month he’s been here.

We’re back and we have another B&T. Meet Havoc
Havoc has a unknown background but no doubt has lots of hound in him and he lets everyone know. He is 2yo and from a local shelter. His owner/teammate is a Veteran and she can’t wait to meet him. His time with us is at least 3months maybe more depending on how training goes. He came here Jan 31st so he’s only been here 4days and he’s settling great. He started super overstimulated as most shelter dogs are. He’s been primarily crated first couple days to get used to smells and sounds of the house as well as routine. He came into a full house and has taken it in stride. He ā€˜met’ existing dogs when he first got here and was not a fan. Gave him couple days and He’s now ā€˜asking’ to play with same dogs.
In those 4 days he has started learning sit. Down. Place. Settle. Potty training and Leah manners.
He will be multipurpose trained primarily for PTSD response and non weight bearing mobility we can’t wait to see how far this boy goes

Unfortunately this will be SDiT Cloud last update as she is being washed from service work. Turns out her breeding is the result of double Merle which is a common coat pattern in many breeds tho not in poodles. The owner knew and notified me before training started that her father and many siblings were Merle therefore being mutts tho did not know till tonight that her mother was a Merle carrier (her parents were Merle ) when bred together double Merle’s often results in eye sight issues as well as hearing loss. The last couple days we have noticed some sight issues mainly pertaining to light sensitivity and depth perception as well as her potty issue since she arrived preventing her from PA till it was under control all explained by her double merle breeding. She will be returned to breeder who originally sold her and after Our event in June we will attempt to find the owner another prospect we wish Cloud a happy and fulfilled life wherever she ends up after this
Here are some videos and photos of her last day at the park with service dog lexi

So apparently the post didn’t post yesterday and I tried to post again and didn’t post that time either but here’s a update on cloud
quite a bit has happened since her last update tho she was seen by a vet for a general health check before her raining could start and she passed with flying colors. She’s now on preventatives and we have started training and she’s thriving. Here are photos. I’ll upload videos separately hoping that they all post

Cloud went to Tractor Supply Co. today to use the self wash. She was washed with (personal ) whitening shampoo and walked around to explore and sniff afterwards. When we finished she and ServiceDogLexi went to a park to bond (we don’t do dog parks as they are highly prone to dog fights) they romped and played together. Lexi and cloud will be working tandem once task training starts (after her vet visit Wednesday) so we have to make sure they trust and are comfortable with each other and they both did great. Cloud had a big day she’s now back home and we are working on open door crate manners. The way that is taught is she is to stay in the crate with door open therefore making the crate a safe place outside of just sleeping at night which is best taught when tired as they ā€˜go to bed’ and just get use to the door open and then staying to sleep. She’s opened up alot in last couple days and we can’t wait to see her open up even more so she can return to help her mom in great ways
