The Greene County Animal Shelter of VA is a small rural shelter trying to save the lives of dogs. We strive on donations of others, whether it be dog food, dog treats, dog toys, collars, leashes, towels, blankets or cleaning supplies such as bleach, pin-sol, dish detergent, and laundry detergent. Our goal since January of 2015 is to have all the dogs to be spayed/neutered before being adopted to t

heir forever family. You can help by having a dog spayed/neutered by donating to the spay/neuter fund of The Greene County Animal Shelter. You can mail checks to PO Box 358 Stanardsville VA 22973, please note to put the spay/neuter fund in memo. The shelter dogs can always use volunteers to bath, to walk and to communicate with them. We are located at 37 Jeri Allen Way Ruckersville VA 22968. There are 2 seperate organizations into one building. The Greene County Animal Shelter is located on the left side of the building. This side only does DOGS. Please come by and visit us and our shelter dogs!

Betsy Marie says “I know how to fetch, but doesn’t understand why she hasn’t fetch the attention of a new family”

This beautiful young beagle mix arrived as a stray who had no one looking for her. Betsy Marie has been waiting for someone to fall in love with her!! We have no idea how this girl hasn’t had any interest……Betsy Marie weighs less than 30lbs and is guessed to be 1yr old or younger. Betsy Marie is the sweetest girl that has much energy for an active family!! Betsy Marie walks well on leash and enjoys walks. If you have another dog we would highly recommend a meet and greet! Betsy Marie loves people and would love to find her very own people!! Betsy Marie is very food/treat motivated! Someone adopt this beautiful girl who loves to fetch and just wants to be loved! Betsy Marie has been spayed and is up to date on vaccines. Betsy Marie’s adoption fee is $95 cash or check. Come by and meet our Betsy Marie! Reintroducing our guy Max who we like to call Maxie who is still in our care and searching for a forever❤️
Max is an 8yr old shihtzu who found himself in our care after being surrendered by his family for the kids in home being allergic and due to the territorial issues they seen from Max. Max has been a joy since coming to our shelter as he is housebroken and enjoys his walks so much! Max has loved every new person he has met while in our care. The ideal home for our sweet guy Max would be without other animals or kids as this boy just wants to be center of attention! Someone please give this lovable guy the home he deserves! He promises to give you the best puppy eyes! Come by and give Max some love! Our hours to meet are Monday, Tuesday, Friday 10-2 and Saturday 10-3. Max’s adoption fee is $95 cash or check.

Off Stephens Loop in Ruckersville, I posted in a group local to this road and have not found the owner. Hoping yall could post up to find the owner. I can’t keep her long term but can keep her in hopes to find the owner. Thank you!”

Happy Friday from our new guy Poncho who is a small guy at just around 9lbs. This adorable yorkiepoo mix has been in our care for a couple weeks as we have been given him time to decompress. Poncho was very shy and scared when arriving in our care. Poncho is still shy, but doing very well with shelter staff. Poncho will need a special home as he will need time to decompress in new home. Poncho is young at around 1yr old. Poncho will need a home with patience and understanding. Poncho is still young and will continue to need training. We do have a waiting list currently for Poncho but you may message if you’re interested in this little guy. Give our little love Poncho some love❤️

Happy boy Kyser who continues to be overlooked while being in our care since November❤️‍🩹

Walks are one of the many joys Kyser finds during his stay at our shelter. Kyser is an active boy who is young and playful! Kyser loves toys and seems fine with each dog he has met. Kyser is so deserving of finding a forever home, but sadly no forever home has been in sight…..We continue to wonder how or why this boy is being overlooked. Someone adopt our deserving boy Kyser who could be your new very best friend! This boy knows commands and listens very well! Kyser appears to have had some training and all he is missing is a forever place to call home… come by and meet our Kyser! Our hours are Monday, Tuesday, Friday 10-2 and Saturday 10-3.

Puppy kisses as Maple from the “wood pile” crew puppies left our shelter in the arms of her new momma!!
Look at that precious face! Maple was the last of her siblings to find her new home and we are so happy for this beautiful girl! She has a family who has been needing a dog to complete their family. Maple will be center of attention and we know she will be loved so very much!! Thank you for adopting and giving sweet girl Maple such an amazing home! Happy life beautiful girl!

Mahogany the fifth “wood pile” crew puppy headed to her new home on Tuesday of this week!
This sweet little girl picked her new human and it was love at first sight!! Mahogany’s new dad lost his beloved dog and stop by the shelter just to take a look, but Mahogany knew she wanted to go home with him! Mahogany was in the playpen and kept wanting to be in his arms. We are so happy for this sweet girl who will be so very loved and spoiled by her new family!!! Thank you for adopting our sweet girl Mahogany!

Monday was our fourth “wood pile” crew puppy adoption day!!! Look at that happy puppy!!!
Our girl Cherry who will now be known as Sundown by her new family found a very adventurous family who has a heeler that was looking for a playmate!! Sundown has already been enjoying new adventures with her new family and has been loving every minute of it!! Adorable photos in the comments of just a glimpse of Sundown’s last few days. We want to thank this family for making the long drive to our shelter to open their home and hearts to this beautiful sweet girl! We wish truly so much love to Sundown and her new amazing forever family!!

This sweet boy was ready to go start living his new best life! Ash has a home filled with so much love that was missing a fur baby. We are so happy they adopted our boy Ash as he has many adventures awaiting for him! We wish so much love to Ash and his new family! Thank you for adopting!!
