Our training methods.

At prideful pups dog training we believe in teaching dogs using positive reinforcement and a fear free training method. We put as little stress on your pup as possible, using clicker training, luring, shaping, and other non forceful methods to teach your dog the behaviors youd like them to do again.

Clicker training:
This consists of using a little box called a clicker. The clicker puts out a sound when pressed that communicates to your dog that you liked what they did, followed by reinforcement (a treat, a toy, or an otherwise rewarding object, including praise) The reinforcement choice is chosen by your dogs motivation level as well as their experience level of the specific behavior. Seeing the click as a reinforcing sound has to be trained to your dog, just like most other things.

Shaping:
When doing a shaped behavior, we tie back into clicker training. Say for example, youre trying to get your dog to sit on a platform. You would first click your dog for even interacting with or noticing the platform then slowly increase the criteria to get closer to them sitting on it. A sample of clicks could be looking at the platform> moving closer to the platform> touching the platform and so forth.

Luring:
Luring is exactly as it sounds like. You use a treat or a toy to (un-forcefully) direct the dog into the position you want them in. This can tie into sitting, heel work, and more advanced behaviors like teaching a service dog deep pressure therapy to their handler. The lure action itself differs for each behavior. The lure you use for laying down, isnt the same you'd use for other behaviors.

Apollo learned a new puppy trick today as apart of his confidence building exercises!! He climbs on this platform, just wide enough for him to fit, and sits on the platform. I taught this using both shaping and luring which will be taught in all 3 of my group classes in January!

Heres some more information on the group classes coming in early to mid January! Questions? Message me!

Meet the team!
~~~
Atlas: I've had a passion for animals for about the past 5 years. I was actually terrified of dogs when I was young and once i figured out that I love them, it only made my bond to dogs stronger. At 14 I was recommended my first service dog which led to what I want to do now. My ultimate goal is to open a service dog training facility, and it (hopefully) wont be too much longer. My favorite breeds to work with/ I would love to own are standard poodles, great danes, golden retrievers, and labrador retrievers. My partner and I have 11 animals, including a standard poodle, a lab mix, 5 rats, a pacman frog, and a turtle.
Fynn: This is my partner who will be helping assist my group classes and possibly schedule appointments fkr me in the future. He's a huge animal enthusiast as well, but a new dog owner.
Apollo: Apollo is a 5 month old multicolored standard poodle who is in training to do psychiatric and medical alert and response for me. He has the perfect temperament and fits in amazingly in our home. Hes super cuddly, confident, and loves to play both with toys and his doggy brother. He is very food motivated. He will be one of my demo dogs!
Asher (Ash): Ash is a 3 year old lab mix whos just a big clumsy, kinda slow dog. He still very much acts like a puppy, plays with his toys, and runs around the yard and house. He will also be a demo dog!
Feel free to introduce yourself and your animals in the comments!
We all need that someone. And the holiday season can be tough for some. Tag a friend who’s on your mind and send them a heart to let them know you got them.
Why is consistency so important in dog training?
Simply put, the dog youre working with can easily become confused if sometimes he can get away with things, and with the same things, sometimes he cant.
For example, take the behavior of jumping on people when the dog is excited.
-During a training session a dog is discouraged to jump on their owner. The owner takes the appropriate steps to teach them the off behavior. (crossing their arms, and turning their back to the dog)
-A day or so after this training session ended, the owner gets home from work to an overexcited dog. The dog, again, jumps on the owner.
This time instead of the owner taking the previously stated steps, they pet the dog, which is unintentionally praising the dog for the jumping behavior. This ultimately causes confusion on whether the dog is supposed to jump on the owner or not
Another common mistake with consistency is certain members of the household not following the same training plan as others. If only one person communicates to the dog not to jump, the dog will most likely assume that they just aren't allowed to jump on just that one person, instead of learning not to jump on anyone.
Questions, comments, opposing opinions! Id love to hear it, feel free to ask away!
Hi everyone! My name is Atlas and I'm the owner and trainer behind Prideful Pups Dog Training in northern Utah.
I'm a dog trainer student offering soon to come free basic obedience, puppy, and trick group classes as I perfect my skills as a professional dog trainer! Group classes will start after Christmas.
I am currently getting my obedience training certificate and will be getting my service animal training certificate through PennFoster and the Animal Behavioral College. Service dogs are 100% my passion, but I love obedience and trick training too. Im currently looking to grow my experience as a dog trainer which is why everything is currently at no cost to any of my clients unless you desire to.
I am based out of Weber County so all group sessions will be around that area. Even if you aren't interested in group classes this page will still be a great place to go for basic training skills you may need help with, as well as some discussions on things that you would like to know more about regarding our furry friends. Dont be afraid to interact or reach out with questions!
