On Monday, we said goodbye to our special boy—Tito.
We held him in our arms as he left this world, his belly full of peanut butter, steak, mashed potatoes, carrots, and his all-time favorite—tissues. He was calm on our drive over to the vet, as we cried and couldn’t handle what was about to happen—he was calm. He looked at us tired but seemed content. Content with his morning doing all of his favorite things, content with meal, content with our love, content with the life we lived together.
I stepped away from social media the last few days to make space for this heavy grief. Losing him has been incredibly painful. He was a once-in-a-lifetime dog—a phrase I’ve said with all our other goodbyes but just like the rest—it feels especially true.
Tito wasn’t just part of our family—but apart of the rescues as well. He was a constant source of laughter and love. He’d always find a way to be in the middle of whatever we were doing. Always wandering around and making friends everywhere he went. As he aged, his needs shifted, and we gladly adjusted our lives around him. He still managed to find joy even on his bad days.
He lived a life full of adventure—attending so many GBF events, hosting his own karaoke night, having his own stickers, being on TV, visiting the farmers market, making seniors smile, meeting dogs and people—even celebrities. From being found as a stray in Tooele County to becoming a gala sensation then later CEO—his is a story we’ll never forget.
The absence he leaves behind is staggering. How strange and cruel it is to know we’ll spend more time missing him than we had with him. But that’s the price of love—and one we are lucky to pay as hard and painful as it is.
I still have so much to say about him. But for now—thank you.
Thank you to everyone who checked in, stepped up to help, brought us goodies, and made sure we had food to eat. I will take time today to go through all the comments and messages.
We’re still grieving. We are still sad. We are still heart broken. But we know he lived a damn good life and for that we are forever grateful for.
I love you my T***s, forever and always. What an honor it was to be your mom.
