We wanted to take a minute to discuss special needs dogs.
These can be dogs with specific health or behavioral problems that makes grooming a bit more difficult. Special needs dogs can be highly stressed from the grooming process and our job is to recognize the problem and adapt our handling to reduce their stress level. This can be a challenge because each grooming session, the triggers can be different, but we get through it in the least stressful way possible. Our main goal is to get them clean, comfortable, and looking the best they can given the challenges (while keeping our hands and fingers in tact). With this in mind, grooms may not always look perfect, but we’ve accomplished our mission!
Bernie and Jax are both pretty “spicy” and require extra care. Both have previously had to be sedated (at a vet) to be groomed, so we are extra proud to be able to get through their grooms with a happy pill (rx by their vet), pateince, and an cone, as well as, quick reflexes.
Abby has alopecia and anxiety, making her grooming more stressful, but with slow handling techniques and patience, we get her done.
All three of the pups are seniors and keeping their stress levels at a minimum is life saving!
We love what we do and hope to have many more years to do it! Let’s hear it for all the special needs dogs ❤️
