When I started in veterinary medicine more than 20 years ago at a clinic in Oklahoma, there was no such thing as Fear Free. If a pet needed blood drawn, vaccines, or treatment, we often just held them down and got it done. It wasn’t because we didn’t care—it was simply how we were taught.

Today, veterinary medicine has evolved, and we’re better for it.

This video shows Fatima and Cindy performing a Fear Free blood draw on a cat patient. By using gentle handling techniques, patience, and reading our patients’ body language, we’re often able to complete procedures with significantly less stress and anxiety for both pets and people.

Fear Free doesn’t mean we never restrain pets. It means we take the time to consider their emotional wellbeing, use the least stressful approach possible, and create a more positive veterinary experience.

We’re proud of the way our team continues to learn, grow, and advocate for our patients—because great medicine isn’t just about what we do, it’s also about how we do it. ❤️🐾

Our Rowlett location is fully booked tomorrow, but we still have a few afternoon openings available at our Heath location with Dr. Hurley and our technicians.

Saturday is filling up fast, too! Summer always brings a busy season for veterinary care, so if your pet needs an exam, vaccines, boarding requirements, or isn’t feeling well, now is the time to schedule.

☀️🚗🐾 A Quick Errand Can Turn Dangerous Fast 🐾🚗☀️

Did you know that on a 75°F day, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 110°F in just minutes? Even with the windows cracked, parked in the shade, or the A/C running, your pet can quickly suffer from heatstroke.

🌡️ Heatstroke is a medical emergency that can cause:
• Organ failure
• Seizures
• Brain damage
• Death

🐶🐱 All pets are at risk, but brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, Frenchies, Persian cats, and others are especially vulnerable.

The safest choice is simple:
➡️ Leave your pet at home when running errands.
➡️ If you see a pet showing signs of heat distress (excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, collapse), seek veterinary care immediately.

Meet Kai! 🐾💙

Those wrinkles. Those paws. That face. We are officially in love!

Kai recently visited Dr. Hurley for his very first puppy appointment, and it’s safe to say he stole the hearts of our entire team. At just 3 months old, this handsome boy is already turning heads wherever he goes.

The puppy stage may be full of chewed shoes, early mornings, and endless energy, but it’s also filled with unforgettable moments, lots of laughter, and the beginning of a lifetime of memories.
