The Feywild was in Longview, WA this last weekend for the UKC Western Classic!
Mia and Loki came along for some great runs in Dash and Precision Coursing, earning Loki his FLY and RACEM titles and Mia her RACEE! They both did amazing and had so much fun.
Ursa came along for some exposure and she even got to try a fun run. She REALLY wanted to chase the bag, but she was also concerned about how mom would feel about her getting so far away. The big thing is that she was interested and willing to chase, so I see it being a favorite in the future.
Baja, or boy without a home, headed home for a trial run in learning to be an explosives detection dog! We will be checking in on him regularly and see where that takes him.
Lastly, Mia went to a Cardiac Clinic held at Classic and we got her an echocardiogram done. The first time I had her heart checked for OFA, I had a basic check done. In the intervening time, I have earned that Labradors are at risk of Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia. This causes that valve to not form correctly and eventually lead to Congestive Heart Failure. The only way to find this is with an Echo, as dogs with active TVD can present without a murmur.
The whole basis of my program is based on healthy dogs, and when you know better you (should) do better. In fact, I was putting off all future breeding plans until I found out what Mia's status was. So when I found out there was going to be a clinic at Classic, this was my sign to get it done now.
So, good news! Mia is clear of TVD and I will be on the search for the sire of her second litter which will be planned for early 2027. The goal is a yellow male or a black carrying yellow, but, as always, health and temperament come first!
