Dallas update: No evidence of cancer but not ruled out. Either way he needs surgery ASAP, tomorrow, to remove the affected portion of his small intestine. It’s too far gone. We have gotten second opinions, both say the same thing. He is so weak he may not survive the surgery, but he won’t survive long at all without it. Thoughts and prayers appreciated as always. You all have been great these past two weeks. Much love.

Wanted to mix a little positivity into our posts and brag on a pup from our 2025 Rodeo litter (DallasxShelby). Steve, pictured along side Ember from our 2019 Red Dirt litter, at just 6 months old scored a perfect 112 on his NAVHDA natural ability testing back in Oct. I have always said there’s something about those white ones. Steve is in MO and is owned by Ben and Kortney White. Thanks for always providing us updates and being a wonderful home to Staunch dogs!

Dallas Update:

I wish I had something positive to post but that hasn’t been our reality the last 6 days.

Dallas’ shock was indeed caused by an infection. He was not progressing like he should have been during his ICU stay which warranted further imagining. This revealed enlarged abdominal lymph nodes and that the wall of the lining of a portion of his small intestine was compromised which made for a perfect situation for infection to develop. Biopsies were taken but, due to the holiday, results will be delayed. So we got to bring him home in the meantime. He is very under weight and weak with little appetite.

Worst case scenario: Cancer which will require surgery, chemo, radiation. No guarantees of curing.

Best case scenario: Massive fungal infection requiring months of meds, biweekly liver panels to monitor his tolerance to aggressive medication, and still possible surgery.

Or palliative care for the remainder of his days.

Will update in the coming days. We appreciate everyone’s continued support. 💕

We will never stop missing you.

Please keep us here at Staunch in your thoughts and prayers as we try to navigate the next few days. Annabelle has been fighting bone cancer the last 6 months and in the last 72hrs her quality of life has taken a nose dive. We have an appt next week for her to cross that rainbow bridge. Then, pretty much out of nowhere, Dallas collapsed when I let him out to potty at 3:30am. He is in the ICU for anaphylactic shock, Vets haven’t been able to determine an exact cause but suspect either infection or severe allergic reaction to something by looking at his blood work. Our home is somber. Will update in the coming days.

Dutton (NV) and Steve (MO) are hard at bird puppy training! We love seeing updates such as these and cannot wait to watch these pups progress as they grow. Dream of birds boys!
