We are a large Christian family, on a small family-owned and operated farm in Central Texas, in a beautiful little town called Rosebud. We raise many kinds of animals, all of which are heritage breeds. Including registered and unregistered Nigerian Dwarf goats, Mini Nubian & Mini LaMancha goats, Jacob sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl, Jersey & Golden Gurnsey cows, and registe

red KuneKune pigs. At our farm we do our best to give the animals we raise a natural, free, happy, stress-free lifestyle. We firmly believe that all animals, even those raised explicitly for human consumption, deserve a comfortable, safe, healthy, and natural life. Our mission as the keepers of these animals is to give them the best life possible for as long as they are in our care. When their life comes to an end, we do so in as humanely a way as possible. Animals are not raw materials we produce, nor are they machines, nor are they human. We strive to treat them with the compassion and caring that they deserve while keeping in mind their position in life. Since Little Sprouts Farm has moved to Texas from the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon, the Lord has been leading us down a different path and we are taking a break from selling foods and beverages.

This morning after milking, I made my rounds to check water troughs. Clarabelle, one of our faithful milk cows, stood quietly by me as I worked. In that quiet moment, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I looked at her and gave her a heartfelt thank you for the gift she gives our family each day.

I know it’s the Lord who provides, but He so often does it through the work of His creatures. Today, I’m especially thankful for this gentle cow and for the simple, steady way God cares for us through His creation.

We have experienced an unprecedented but pleasant surprise blessing this year!

We are back at it hatching and growing turkeys. But at first it seemed a little risky, becasue we only had 2 breeders left from previous years, one tom and one hen. A literal Adam and Eve situation! Nevertheless, we set them up in January with lights and a nice breeding area and nesting box, praying for the best. Well here are are in late march with amazing results!

Thus far, we have 100% fertility rate, 100% hatch rate and 100% survival rate!

Let me stress that this RARELY happens! Usually each of those is only at about 80% (80% are fertile, 80% of those hatch and 80% of those survive).

What did we do? Not much... except two major points:

This Tom and Hen are the absolute best genetics for a central texas farm. How do I know that? becasue they have survived harsh winters and summers and come out strong. They have survived lean times and stressful times. So genetically these two are as good as it gets. By breeding them together we get excellent poults with top notch genetics.

The other thing we did was switch to incubators from Hatching Time. The old Brinsea incubators we had from the Oregon operation finally got to the end of their life and we replaced them. The Hatching time incubators have pros and cons, but what I have noticed is excellent temp and humidity control comparatively.

How much these affecting things, its hard to say. Bottom line is, God has blessed us with a new flock of excellent genetics to go forward.

We will not be selling turkeys this year, but next year, if all goes well, we will have plenty of eggs, poults, and maybe even processed turkeys for Thanksgiving!

And we are BACK!

2024 was a tough year. Our family and farm went through a few major changes and challenges. That's life, right? But for 2025 we are BACK in operation! Just a bit different.

So What's Different?

We no longer offer full grown dairy goats. We do have kids available seasonally.

We no longer offer dairy calves. The industry has changes significantly so that offering dairy calves is no longer feasible for us.

What we do have for 2025 is:

Barnyard Chickens
Quail
Ducks
A variety of hand made crafts
A variety of homemade foods

We are very excited to get back into the mix of homesteading and see where this year goes!
