♥️ Thank you to the for awarding A Passion for Paws Rescue, Inc. a 2025 P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant!! We will use the grant to give beds to our orphaned Akitas while they wait to find their forever home. The donation of these chill pads allows our dogs to have a comfy spot whether on their Kuranda beds or on the floor. And for some of our senior dogs this soft chill pad is the extra comfort they need! KLEO, OZZIE and KISHA are just some of the adoptable dogs being helped by the 2025 P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant program. This big extremely friendly adult male Akita is all love and goof!! He is just a big bear that has the biggest heart. When he arrived he was very thin and clearly neglected but Sully didn’t let his past effect his true character. He is just the best and deserves a life loved and cherished!! Sully is grateful for everything and take very good care of his bedding and kennel. He loves walks and is good on leash. He does well with his baths and is an excellent boy!
🎀Rose is an adorable petite young girl Akita who is ready for her forever home!! 💜She is very sweet and affectionate. Rose is not a fan of most other dogs but does like some of our friendly males. She loves playing with toys and is learning to walk on-leash. She walks wonderfully but was scared of the leash at first. We don’t know what her previous life was like but have noticed she really opened up with us. She can be shy of new experiences but adjusts with a little encouragement. 🐾💕Rose truly is just a dolly that needs someone to show her what this beautiful world is about!!!
🐾💙🐻Lil’ Tank is a young adult male Akita that is ready for his forever home!! This sweet boy has grown up in the shelter and rescue system from puppyhood but has not let that change his loving personality!! He is a teddy bear with a loyal heart. He is young and enjoys walks, doing the zoomies, playing tug of war and tearing up hedgehog stuffies!! He then settles down and naps like a champ! This handsome boy is ready to know what it is like to be in a home. He is not a fan of water but kindly tries his best to stand still for baths because he cares for you, gently taking treats. Lil’ Tank is such a good boy and will be the best buddy you could ask for!!

💜🐻🐾 Nova is a young female Akita that arrived from the shelter absolutely ready to find her forever home… but then there was a surprise!!! She had babies soon after!! 3 adorable white baby marshmallows and this young girl had to grow up fast!! She did an amazing job as a nurturing momma and now she is ready to find a home that will finally treat her like the baby girl she is!!

♥️🐾Kisha needs her own reality show or social media account because she is a natural influencer!!! This young female Akita is the cutest, spunkiest character and available for adoption!! Kisha isn’t a fan of other dogs so would do best as an only girl in a home with Akita experience!! She is sweet and sassy in the best Akita ways and always puts a smile on our faces!! ♥️

🐾💙 Ozzy is an adorable young adult male Akita that has this thing that when he knows you are taking a picture he puts his ears back and strikes a pose 💙 Can he be any cuter??!!!! This boy is just sweet and cuddly!! He loves sitting and holding his stuffie toys. He goes for nice walks and plops next to you for affection… he listens to everything you say and really just wants to be a good boy!! Ozzie arrived neglected and thin, he is now healthy and has grown into a tall handsome boy!! Ozzie is so ready to find his forever home!!

She arrived from the shelter scared and unsure of where she was going and quietly would lick your fingers and say hi gently. And as she realized that she was safe and in a place where she is loved, her sad worried face turned into the biggest smile!! This beautiful girl is gentle, sweet and so kind. She loves being with her humans and I can’t express how sensitive and darling her heart is. If you are looking for a forever peaceful companion, January is your gal. She enjoys being by your side and helping out in anyway she can. Donna Jo is loyal and enjoys walks, playing with her squeaky toys and is just a really good girl. She is ready for her forever home!
🐾💙Branson is one of our adult male Akitas that has grown so much while being with us at the rescue ranch!! He arrived a little wild and untrusting at times so we devoted ourselves to loving and guiding him as he realized that he is safe and cared for. And this amazing boy has responded in courage and strength!! He is the funniest and goofiest big bear who loves to play and be with those he loves!! Branson is such a good boy and just needed some patience before he gave us his heart!! This boy is ready for his forever home but would do best with a breed experienced owner l, adult only home. We love seeing the transformation in our Akitas through consistency and care. 💙🐾

♥️🐾 Adorable young Akita girl Stella wants to wish you a very Merry Christmas season and sends her love and best wishes to everyone!! Stella is a darling young girl that found herself pregnant and having babies at the shelter when she herself is just a baby!! Thanks to your support we were able to save her and her babies and have been helping them grow and thrive as they get ready for adoption. Stella is very sweet and loving but can be dog reactive to certain dogs.. it may just be her protective momma mode!! She is currently still caring for her pups but will be available for adoption soon!

A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization specializing in Akitas and other large-breed dogs.
It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are. A Passion For Paws Rescue, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Cheryl Weatherford to honor the memory of her son Paxton David Weatherford who passed away from a rare form of cancer after only a 9 day battle. Paxton loved animals, and had brought Cheryl her first Akita; an extra large, white male named Zeus who had survived a terrible fire at a San Diego shelter that killed 200 dogs. Zeus had the appearance of a polar bear, temperament of a lamb, and was wise beyond his years fostering in Cheryl, an undying love for Akitas and dogs in need.
Since our beginning, we have saved the lives of over 2,000 Akitas and other large-breed dogs who don’t stand a chance in overcrowded shelters and are often destroyed right away. In 2010, we established the #AkitaRanch facility to provide for the temporary housing and care of dogs in need. We have the capacity for 25 dogs at a time, and when space is unavailable, dogs are placed in foster care. We are the only Akita rescue organization in the southwestern United States that actively takes in dogs on a weekly, if not daily basis.
We are 100% all-volunteer charity organization that operates entirely on donations. The average stay is 140 days per dog, where we provide medical care, spay/neuter/microchip and rehabilitate each dog to be ready for their forever home. We do not turn away dogs based on sickness, injury, age, or attitude, and strive to make 2nd hand dogs first class family members.
