South Paw's Doberman

South Paw's Doberman We are a Doberman Pinscher breeder in North Ga. Focused on a superior Doberman. Family owned and operated. We rescue train and breed.

We search bloodlines that can make a better dog. We believe in out crossing them for lowest COI and highest genetic potential. We health test all of our breeding dogs, their results and pedigrees are available upon request. We do not breed "Z" factor Dobermans "whites" or "albino" they are not rare, sadly their genes are mutated and it is not healthy. Most need surgery to remove cancerous bodies s

everal times in their life times they are at greater risk of health concerns, and because we aspire to improve the health of the breed we do not support such breeding.

We research longevity and minimal health risk to ensure your new puppy can be the best they can be.

We have taken some well known bloodlines and famous dogs like Obi wan Kenobi grande vinko, del Rio bianco, Kimbertal and HYOTT, VON SCHWARZE KRAFT, Di Altobello, VON DER TOPFERSTADT, Märkischen Land and more! We combine working and show dogs American and European to produce the ultimate doberman.

So you want to be a breeder??
If you want to breed prepare...
Research the pedigrees completing the health testing, know you dogs likes and dislikes. Learnt heir temperament. Know their flaws. Pick a mate according to strength the flaws. Breed better than what you have. As a general rule our girls are usually interested in a male around day 10 of heat. Heats are from the moment you see blood, if no blood look for swelling. It helps to have them close by so they can get aquatinted with each other.
If she displays uninterested behaviors remove the male. Do not allow him to harass her. We usually allow a meeting once a day to see if there's any interest. Look for signs of she's interested.
Prepare for a uterus infection/ males get utis too it's not guaranteed but it happens.
Prepare ultimate nutrition for your mom's. Their diet needs to sustain them and feed their babies. High calorie diets are required. Worm your bitch if you haven't already to ensure they receive all the nutrients they will need. Wait about 4 weeks to see if she's showing. Count 60 days from the breeding date. About a week before Mom is due wormer again. Puppies need to be strong to survive the birthing process it's very stressful for everyone involved. Moms will be digging holes 😅. Towards the end of pregnancy girls will need constant food with no restrictions. They have limited space in their tummy and you never know when they will want a snack! We don't x ray simply because sick dogs go to the vet and there's a good chance mom can pick up cooties. 🤷 Prepare Mom's birthing place. You need to be able to control temperature and easily sanitized and ventilation. Give mom old towels and blankets to destroy through the birthing process. You should have several things on hand.
Like, hand towels, puppy milk replacer. Puppy bottles, tube feeding kit. Hand towels many! Lots of Tums 1000 mg. Heat lamps, baby wipes, Clorox wipes. E coli is present in the birthing process. Let them nest, feed the instincts. Carefully monitor mom. Once the girls don't want to eat expect puppies within 12-24 hours now your on puppy watch and mom should stay in welping area with frequent supervised walks. Once the first puppy is born Mom will need constant supervision. Give mom Tums after 1st puppy is born. And Tums after every few puppies. This helps her have energy throughout the process and provides calcium so she doesn't have any problems. Also sometimes girls get heart burn or tummy aches and they help. After each puppy is born you should inspect each puppy and make sure they don't have fluid in their lungs. You shouldn't hear a popping noise. If you see the puppy mouthing like they are trying to cough or throw up they have fluids. Hold puppy upside down and gently move back legs to tummy and away. Wipe away any fluids from puppies face. Gently pinch the back of puppies neck to get a cry to help clear the fluids. If puppy doesn't cry repeat process to remove fluids. Sometimes you need to cut the cord or open the puppies sack. Make sure each puppy nurses. Mother dogs make colostrum and the puppies will need it to survive the next few weeks. When you cut the puppies cord it should between their knees but above the foot. If there's active blood cut where it's white to keep from excessive blood loss. It's important moms clean their babies from the birthing process this is a bonding experience between Mom and babies. Only interfere when a puppy is drowning in the sack and has fluids. And once puppy is ok place back with Mom to clean. Make sure every puppy nurses!!! Sometimes moms will push them away from immediately nursing because this also stimulates contractions. Pet your girls back and tummy towards the tail. Sometimes you can place you hand there to give her a bit more pushing power so she can push against your hand. Moms are usually restless the first few puppies so it's important to make sure moms don't burry puppies in blankets or sit on them. Moms usually settle down a bit after the first few puppies have arrived. Moms should reposition as needed. Puppies should arrive 30 mins to an hour apart. If mom is pushing and no babies there's a problem. Sometimes you need to retrieve a puppy in the birth canal. Research proper techniques. Try to get all placentas out with each puppy. Sometimes moms stop pushing once puppy is free. 😅 Keep count if a puppy comes out without the placenta. If they do not all come out mom will develop a life threatening infection. Usually after Mom has 3-6 puppies a walk is necessary maybe she needs to p*e or p**p and it's keeping her from her best. It's best to have help. Place new born puppies in a clean basket outside of the welping area and use them to get Mom to leave. Take Mom out. While mom is out doing her thing quickly reprepare the welping area. This needs to be completed in just a few minutes, she's still in active labor and could potentially have another baby on the way outside 😱. Place new clean dry towels and place puppies back in welping area under heat lamp in a puppy pile and prepare Tums for Mom for when she returns. Leashing mom for this process is best. Let Mom back in and reunited with her babies. No go through the house and clean up discharge mopping. Hose off patio. Back to moms side as the journey continues.

Once mom lays down place all the babies by her side. And wait. Depending on the time of day it could be 6pm,3am or 8am. 😅 That's what puppy watch means. Do not leave your girls side. Quiet places help mom feel safe. Also before this process you can check Mom's temp. Labor begins after her temperature dips below 100. But Ive always used off the food as my indicator. Walking every 3-4 hours for Mom. This also helps the puppies move along in the birthing canal to sp*ed up the process. Obviously if there are problems during birth taking mom to vet or ER vet. Now monitor mom and babies. If puppies are excessively crying pick puppy up for Mom to clean maybe the babies need to be stimulated by Mom to relieve their bowels or place puppy close to nurse. There's about 1000 different scenarios where something goes wrong so be prepared. You can check weights and weigh daily to make sure they are gaining. We don't like collars on puppies this young. 🤷 Puppies should appear plump and active and quiet. That's how you know all needs are met. Usually Mom isn't hungry for a few days after welp if she ate most of the placentas. The placentas are basically vitamins for Mom while it's gross if they want to eat a few let them. Placentas are usually dark red purpleish black color, slimy mucus package. Gloves through the process are important. Placentas stain your hands and clothes and towels. 😅 If your area isn't well vented everything will smell like placentas. 😂 In about 2-3 days mom should regain appetite. Moms should lay down and relaxed. If moms are sitting on t***s or curled up in a ball she needs tums. Again we give Tums every 3-4 hours everyday until puppies are weaned usually 3 Tums helps moms glucose depending on size and breed. 🤷
Check Mom's t***s everyday. They should all be warm and squishy. If you feel ANY hard lumps take Mom to vet for mastitis. You can check her temperature. it shouldn't be any higher than 102. If it's higher she has an infection somewhere. Keep Mom in car until vet office is prepared. Take her straight to a room. Do not allow her to socialize around stranger dogs. She will be very anxious about leaving her babies. Don't let random people or other dogs harass her. Leave babies at home unless there's a problem with babies. New born puppies can not maintain their body temperatures. If a puppies temperature drops they are no longer able to digest their food or eat. You should probably have a car heating pad just in case it's ever needed. Bring an office heating pad too just in case. Make sure puppies are warm, perhaps a basket or a tote with a cover to keep them protected. Don't let random people touch the new born puppies. 🤷 You don't know why they are at the vet. Clavamaox is top shelf for moms and puppies. 😉🙌 We usually take Mom to vet after welp or a few days after welp for check ups assuming no visit is needed prior. We are usually at the vet within the first week of welp 😂.

Sincerely,
South Paws Doberman 🐾

Confession;
One of the biggest struggles I have encountered is picking between my needs and the dogs needs.... It is the daily struggle.
Knowing that there are things I need to do but maybe I'm tired, thirsty or hungry and putting my needs to the side to take care of the dogs first. Knowing I can't relax until I know my dogs are good. We miss meals, we loose sleep, because the dedication is stronger. Sometimes it feels like there's not enough time in the day... 7 days a week 365 days a year. Remember your breeder is tired. Have patience.
Sincerely,
South Paws Doberman

Sampson is available as pet or stud. He is a fence jumper. So arrangements would need to be made. He is proven stud who has produced beautiful pups and well rounded temperament. Social and adaptable. He loves to play. Super sweet boy. He's been fine with kids and other female dogs. He has been excellent in a crate. We have never had the opportunity to leave him loose in the house though so perhaps some work would need to be done.

As for the stud contracts: You got the best puppy out of the litter in hopes to continue their specific special lineage. Even though we are no longer breeding we have a small circle of breeders who we trust and believe in our mission and understand the importance of the bloodlines continuing.
The arrangements are flexible where it can be completed in your home or we can provide the location. :) In any case you will still need to complete the recommended health testing outlined in our agreements.
Thank you!

Update: we haven't posted any of the adults publicly as of yet. Let me explain. Over the last 10 years we have searched high and low for bloodlines that will carry diversity. Meaning dogs outside of the box of popular sires and dams. So most of our dogs are the last of their lines. It is better for 10 dogs to sire 2 litters than 1 dog to sire 100.
With that being said breeders have first pick on our adults as of to keep in mind each one of our adults was choosen to be the top dog in their litter or line and was choosen to carry the bloodline on. Do not think they are just doberman's. Without selective breeding there is no breed. This doesn't mean every dog is worthy for breeding but that our adults were chosen to carry the best traits to continue their lineages. I hope everyone understands and can be patient while we sort the details. Everyone is welcome to follow up with us. We do have a lot going on it can be a struggle to keep up. 😅
For now we are certain the following are available.

❤️We have Ruby- she is a return from our chilli Leo litter. She is a very shy girl she has a long warm up period and has low adaptability meaning she struggles in new environments. She requires patience and consistency to help her adjust. She is fixed and UTD on shots. She is crate and house trained. She's sweet once she gets to know you. We expect her to have some protection once she settles in. We would prefer no small children. She has been around other dogs and has done well. She doesn't like cats.

❤️Carly- Carly is a retired female. She will need to be spayed. Carly is an exceptional house family companion. She loves children. She has a very sweet and gentle disposition. She does have protection as well. She is friendly and quick to adapt. She is selective on female dogs and should be ok with a male. She currently has puppies and meeting her will have to be after her puppies are weaned. Carly is crate and house trained with frequent walks. Carly walks on a leash wonderfully and rides in the car good also. She is confident and obedient and an absolute lover. She is 4 year old.

❤️Abby- Abby is bursting with confidence and loves to do new things. She quickly adapts and rides in the car well. She is crate and house trained with frequent walks. She doesn't like cats and has t been around smaller animals. She might do fine with an adult male companion. She is quite athletic and very sweet with a gentle disposition. She is relatively social too. She is 4 years old also. She has great focus with eye contact and is eager to please. She would love a sport or additional training.

As I sit here fighting back the tears, all I can I say is that It was never our intention to become a breeder…we simply got a dog and fell in love with a breed. Then as we were wrapped up by how amazing he was we simply wanted to share that with the world. As we dove deeper in to the doberman world and obsessively learned as much as we could we noticed some flaws in the way things were. We thought we could make some improvements on how things were and we did a lot of research and searched high and low for dogs that were likely to carry diversity. We learned that this breeds coefficient of inbreeding averaged around 45%. We learned it was thought That lowering the inbreeding could have positive effects on health and longevity. We learned the differences of temperaments and he strengths and weaknesses of those types. We learned that every dog is an individual and have preferences and we did our best to educate the world. We learned how diverse this breed is. We learned their purposes and functions. We have touched a lot of lives over this last decade. We have amazing unbelievable stories that are true. There are a lot of good memories and a lot of heart break…. A lot of heart break. We thought we knew how tough the journey would be… but nothing would have prepared us for this journey.
We are honored for the opportunity for those we have helped and changed so many lives.
We have worked our hands to the bone, blood sweat and tears sleepless nights. It’s one of the only jobs you don’t get vacations or off days and sick days. Sun up to sun down. It is emotionally, physically and financially draining. Nothing makes up for all the sacrifices. Which is why most breeders are hobby only. The cost is to high when you give it your all.
There was never a breed so deserving of our greatest efforts and we do not regret our journey. We have met some of the most amazing people in the world thanks to this amazing breed.
We will continue to do our best to support our doberman family. We are here if you guys need us. ❤️
Sincerely,
South Paws Doberman 🐾

Unfortunately on Sunday Tesla started acting unusual. We rushed her to the emergency vet. Upon diagnosis we discovered that her stomach had flipped. Apparently it's more common after welp. We discovered we were too late. In our 10 years this has never happened and to say we are devastated is an understatement. She was an angel and we are destroyed. We are now feeding her 12 babies. They are doing really good with this transition. We are hopeful and broken hearted. 😓
Mommy misses you sweet girl. 💔
Forever in our hearts. You were so kind to everyone you met. You had a way of stealing hearts. Mommy's good girl! 💔😓
