HONORING A LOSS BY SPREADING AWARENESS
I will not post a name or a picture out of respect. Like others that come here I want to show my deep condolences through honoring them because every dog that comes here becomes family and I love them deeply. I will miss you ๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท๐ฉท. You will be forever in my heart. ๐ฉท๐พ
Most pet parents have experienced dog fighting, resource guarding, dominant behavior, separation anxiety that can lead to aggressive behavior due to fear because we didn't understand body language. No judgement. This is how we learn and grow to be better pet parents.
UNDERSTANDING HOW DOGS SPEAK TO US ๐พโค๏ธ
One of the most important responsibilities we have as dog owners is learning to understand our dogsโnot just when they are happy and playful, but also when they are uncomfortable, overwhelmed, fearful, or asking for space.
Understanding canine body language can help prevent serious situations, including dog fights that can result in devastating or even fatal injuries.
Dogs communicate with us constantly through their posture, facial expressions, ears, tail, eyes, movement, and overall behavior. A stiff body, avoiding eye contact, lip licking, yawning, tucked tail, freezing, raised hackles, or repeatedly trying to move away can all be important signals that a dog is uncomfortable.
These signs should never be ignored or dismissed as, โTheyโre just being a dog.โ
This is not about blaming or judging anyone. It is about education, awareness, and protecting our dogs.
๐พ๐ถโค๏ธEvery dog owner should take the time to learn the basics of canine behavior and body language. The more we understand what our dogs are trying to tell us, the better equipped we are to recognize stress before it escalates and step in appropriately. You tube videos could be a great place to start. Find a good trainer that understands dog language, behaviorist that could also educate you and help you understand your dog. I tell all my clients before adopting/rescuing a dog you can call me and see if it's a good fit. I will help you know the pros and cons of your dogs likes and dislikes and who I feel they would do better with and how to correctly introduce a new dog into your household. This is something I'm constantly speaking to my clients about. I'm always always communicating about their dogs'stay and temperament. It is my responsibility to help them understand their dogs better.
At Fitness4pawz, we believe that caring for dogs means more than simply providing food, water, exercise, and love. It means listening to themโeven when they aren't using words.
๐พ Learn their language.
๐พ Respect their boundaries.
๐พ Watch for the subtle signs.
๐พ Give them space when they ask for it.
๐พ And always prioritize safety.
Sometimes, recognizing one small warning sign can make all the difference.
Our dogs depend on us to speak up for them. Let's make sure we understand what they're saying.โค๏ธ๐ถ
There are resources out there and if you don't know, everyone is always welcome to reach out to me. I am always recommending certain dog trainers for certain behaviors. I care about every dog whether they come here or not. It is my responsibility to help you try to find the right resource if you are ever in this situation.
