Good afternoon to everyone, it's the first Friday of August which means it's time to share an ! In this installment, we're highlighted a pop-culture icon for novice pet owners - the Goldfish.

To start, did you know Goldfish actually have impressive memories? The old myth that goldfish have a 3-second memory is exaggerated. They can actually remember things for months and can be trained to recognize colors, shapes, and even their owners. Goldfish can also live surprisingly long – With proper care, they can live 10–15 years, and some have even been recorded living over 40 years!

Finally, when kept in aquariums or bowls, Goldfish stay small due to limited space and food. But if they're released into lakes, rivers, or ponds, goldfish can grow over a foot long and live for decades. In the wild, they have no natural predators in many places, and they stir up sediment, uproot plants, and compete with native fish for food which can seriously damage ecosystems. That’s why wildlife agencies advise against flushing or releasing goldfish. Instead, many areas have “fish surrender” programs where you can safely rehome them.

The family here at Bella's wishes everyone a safe end to their week. Stay cool out there and give your pets lots of love for us.

Wishing Everyone a Safe & Blessed 4th of July tomorrow!

From the family here at Bella's, we wish you and your loved ones a safe and meaningful Independence Day. As we all gather to celebrate with fireworks and festivities, we also want to remind our fellow pet parents to be mindful of how these celebrations can affect our furry friends. Keep the following tips in mind tomorrow before lighting your bottle rockets!

- Keep pets indoors in a quiet, comfortable space away from windows if possible
- Use calming music or white noise to help mask loud noises if you will be away from home
- Ensure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date, especially for our outdoor pets
- Consider anxiety blankets or vet-approved calming aids to provide before fireworks begin

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday and that your pets can enjoy it too.

Another week has passed, which means it's y'all! We hope everyone has a safe weekend ahead of Father's Day.

For today's fact...did you know that Rabbits don't love carrots as much as we might think? Thanks to popular media like Looney Tunes, we tend to picture Rabbits chomping on carrots like it's their favorite food, but in reality carrots would rarely be a part of their diet in the wild!

As grazing prey animals, Rabbits primarily rely on grasses, weeds, hay, pellets, leafy plants, and other ruffage for their nutrition. While they might nibble on a carrot that was dug up in the wild, they do not typically eat root vegetables. Compared to their usual diet, carrots are very high in sugar and should only be given as an occasional treat to keep them healthy.

We wish everyone a wonderful Friday and hope this can help keep our hopping friends healthy. Thank you to our very own BunBuns for allowing us to share his photo.

Wishing you all a blessed week thus far - for today's did you know Parrots aren't just colorful chatterboxes? They have fascinating vocal organs and are long-lived companions too!

Parrots have a very complex organ called the Syrinx, located at the base of their trachea where it splits into the lungs. Due to this forked respiratory track, they can produce two different sounds at the same time! They have very fine tuned muscles to control the Syrinx, allowing them to mimic a major variety of sounds, from ringtones to human speech.

Aside from their unique ability to mimic sound, some species of Parrots can live 50 to 100 years with proper care! This means our feathered friend can both out-talk and out-live their owners, being passed down for generations. That longevity is something you need to consider before buying one as a pet!

The Bella's team wishes you all a safe and wonderful weekend.

For this week's we're highlighting the Chinchilla! A semi-common yet exotic pet with a very special set of fur.

Did you know Chinchillas have the densest fur of any land mammal? With up to 80 hairs growing from a single follicle (compared to just 1 hair per follicle in humans), this makes them super soft, but also means they can’t get wet in normal circumstances.

Why is this? Because their fur is so dense, water can get trapped beneath the surface and take forever to dry, risking fungal infections or hypothermia. So instead of bathing in water, chinchillas roll around in volcanic ash or fine dust, a behavior called dust bathing. The dust soaks up oils and dirt from their fur and keeps them clean and heathy while a regular bath would not!

Chinchillas are native to the Andes Mountains, and built for cold, rocky climates, which is why they love cool environments and need to avoid heat stress in warmer homes.

If you’ve ever wanted a pet that’s low-odor, plushy soft, and occasionally does backflips in a bowl of dust to "wash off", you might be a chinchilla person.

We hope you learned a bit about these interesting companions, and we wish you all a safe !
