What a gentle giant Phoenix is 🖤 He’s in for his aural hematoma repair recheck. With all the allergies present in Arkansas right now, it’s common for pets to shake their heads which could cause trauma to the ear leading to a hematoma.

📋An aural hematoma, also known as a swollen ear flap, is a blood collection that occurs within the ear flap of dogs and cats. It's caused by a burst blood vessel that fills the space between the skin and cartilage with blood. The ear flap will appear thick and spongy, and the condition can be painful.

July is National Pet Hydration Awareness Month 💦💧🚿

🔆Hot Summer Temperatures
July is typically a hot month, and pets are more susceptible to dehydration due to their limited sweat glands and reliance on panting for cooling.

🔆Increased activity:
Pets may be more active during the summer, leading to increased water loss through panting and exercise.

How to ensure your pet stays hydrated:

🌀Provide fresh, clean water:
Make sure your pet always has access to water, both indoors and outdoors.

🌀Monitor water intake:
Keep an eye on how much your pet is drinking and be aware of any changes in their habits.

🌀Consider different options:
Offer water in various bowls, fountains, or even add water to their food to encourage them to drink.

‼️Know the signs of dehydration:
Learn to recognize the symptoms, which may include lethargy, loss of appetite, excessive panting, and dry gums.
‼️Seek veterinary care:
If you suspect your pet is dehydrated, contact your veterinarian immediately
