Practical Skills Workshop - new class offering starting this Sunday, 11/9 at 12:30pm! Spots still available if you'd like to join!

This 3 week outdoor class will work on bringing the foundational skills your dog already has to the real world and improving them. The first class will be held in the parking lot of Richboro Veterinary Hospital, the second at Ft Washington State park and week 3 to be determined!

Topics covered include recall, loose leash walking, polite people greetings.

Sydney says happy Halloween! And while she may be a social butterfly (or for today, a social fairy!), who loves to greet people coming to her home, let's keep everyone safe tonight by using leashes, baby gates or safe spaces for our pets while we focus on trick or treaters.

Happy independence day!

As we get ready for neighborhood celebrations tonight, let's take a couple steps to keep our pets safe! This evening is one of the most common times for pets to get lost.

Remember, it is a wonderful thing to set up a safe, quiet refuge for our pets on nights like these. If you pet wants to hide, let them and make it comfy. Add some white noise, or put on some music or movie, offer comfort if your dog seeks it out - you will not make their fear worse by doing so.

-Try to take your last potty break as early as possible, ideally before dark. Do not leave pets outside alone or unsecured, even before dark. Early noisemakers are always a possibility and can be quite surprising!
-Double leash your dog before going outside and ensure your collar and harness is secure and fits properly. Leash your dog even if you are in a fenced in area.
-Check your pets ID tags and make sure they are accurate and secure.
- Ensure your pets microchip information is up to date.
-if your vet has prescribed medications for your pet, check your instructions and give them an appropriate amount of time to take effect before the noise begins!

Ghosts, ghouls, open front doors and candy lying around everywhere... What's the spookiest part of Halloween for you and your dog?!

Let's keep everyone safe this Halloween by keeping our dogs safely contained, either by leash, door, baby gate or crate and keep our candy in our cabinets or bellies rather than theirs! Even our most well-behaved buddies have been known to do something out of character on such a day... And no one wants to spend Halloween night at the ER vet vomiting up a bunch of candy still in their wrappers!

Happy Halloween everyone! And feel free to share your dogs and cats all dressed up if they enjoy that sort of thing!

Lisa will be offering Pet Dog Manners 1 and Canine Good Citizen classes at Richboro Vet on Saturdays starting mid-March at 9:15 (PDM1)and 10:15 am (CGC), pending enrollment.

Do you need to brush up on some skills or practice known skills with some helpful distraction? Pet Dog Manners is a basic manners class for all dogs over 4 months of age.

Perhaps you've been looking to prepare for Canine Good Citizen certification - this class offers 4 weeks of instruction and Canine Good Citizen testing is offered the final week of CGC class.

Remember, salt dough ornaments can be toxic to dogs, yet seem quite tempting - salty and they look like cookies! Either use an alternative dough for your crafts or make sure there is no way your dog can reach them!
