🇺🇸Project K-9 Hero Adoption Opportunity🇺🇸
Please meet retired Military Working Dog “J***y (Y065), who served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Explosive Detection Dog with the United States Army MWD Program.
Last fall, J***y was given a date of January 8th to find a new home, or else he would have been out of all options due to military regulations. Project K-9 Hero was able to accept J***y in December at our National Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility, and we have been working with him daily over the last several months with our professional staff.
MWD J***y served from 2017 -2023 at Fort Johnson/Polk, Louisiana with the 50th Military Working Dog Detachment, however he was labeled as “excess” and was deemed to be unadoptable to the general public due to his previous aggression issues. There were no handlers at his kennels that had the ability to give MWD J***y a home, as he was medically released from service due to continuous hip/spine issues and severe diagnosed arthritis. We are extremely honored to be a trusted resource for the U.S. Military and the Army MWD Program when a Hero like J***y needs our help the most.
J***y turned nine years old on December 3rd, and is a strong/high-drive working dog. He will require frequent attention and exercise daily. Even though he may be retired, J***y will need a very consistent schedule and routine. J***y has had documented bites and aggressive behavior while he was experiencing pain related health issues with his hips and back while still in the Army. Since his medical issues have been properly diagnosed, and with the current medication that he is on, J***y has shown NO signs of aggression while he has been at the PK9H facility towards our staff.
Once adopted, J***y will remain a full-time program member and our organization will continue to support him for life with medical care, prescription food, and death benefit assistance. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference in a retired Military Working Dog’s life!
If you are interested in giving MWD J***y a fur-ever home, please read the following requirements for his adoption carefully. There will be NO exceptions to these conditions.
- Must have NO children under 14 in your home.
- Must have a fenced yard or contained acreage for him to safely exercise multiple times a day.
- Must have an established and secure climatized outdoor kennel where he can comfortably stay in year round if necessary. (These are the conditions he is currently used to.)
- Must have experience in handling/owning a working dog of his caliber or breed.
- Have the ability to interact with him multiple times a day and not leave him unattended for periods over six-eight hours at a time.
- Be willing to travel to PK9H HQ in Tennessee, and work one on one with our staff, to appropriately learn how to handle MWD J***y.
- Show in person that you have the confidence and skill to appropriately handle and maintain MWD J***y in all aspects of his care.
If you feel you meet each and every one of these requirements listed, please complete and submit our adoption application at:
