Hello Friends and Valued Customers!

I am requesting your help. I have enrolled in a Master Canine Stylist program for my 21st year in the grooming biz and need some references and testimonials from you! This program is geared to test established groomers in their skills and knowledge to become ‘certified’ under potential state regulations. While New York State is currently unregulated in the grooming industry, I prefer to be on top of changing laws and regulations. Many of you may not be aware that I became a professional groomer through an apprenticeship in Virginia. While it was an excellent first step, I motivated myself to continue my education through online courses and trade shows, like Barkleigh, the Master Groomer Behavior Specialist diploma from Whole Pet Grooming Academy, Fear Free, and AKC’s Salon S.A.F.E. This is simply the next step for me.

If you have the time to write and agree to be a reference, please email me your statement, and if you wish, a pic of your pet! What I’m looking for is a reason why you wanted me as your pet groomer and why you are pleased with my work.I’m happy to also showcase your praises on my website, www.The-purrfectpaws.com. My email is [email protected]

Thank you!

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them.
They’re doing far more than just washing the dog.

I want to let all of my current and future customers know that the latest "lose control" trend going on social media whew groomers blow very fast moving air into the faces of dogs to match crazy music is NEVER EVER EVER CONDONED ON MY TABLE.

This act creates fear and mistrust and makes the grooming infinitely more difficult and challenging for the dog, the groomer, and puts your dog at risk for a multitude of medical issues.

This act and "trend" is not condoned by ANY Groomer/stylist that cares about the welfare and safety of your pet. This week, I will try and record obscenely boring video clips of dogs being dried. And if you start yawning because there's no action and drama, it means the dog is very comfortable with the process. It is how every dog should be.

BTW, this is the only one I condone

Grooming with Empathy

Kara has been a professional groomer since 2004 and previously worked in various animal fields since 1990. After training under an apprenticeship in a grooming salon/teaching school in Virginia, Kara returned to her hometown to continue her passion for grooming and remain close to family. Since then she has attended several conferences to sharpen her skills and remain up to date on the latest techniques and safety protocols including pet First Aid/CPR. Her current niches are rehabilitating pets who have had traumatic experiences and freestyle grooming (Asian Fusion/Creative).

Not only is Kara proficient in all breeds for grooming, she is also a trained cat groomer! Having been trained by professionals and veterinarians, she has groomed cats since 2001. As an added distinction, she is a member of the National Cat Groomers Institute of America as well as the National Dog Groomers Association of America. She constantly researches the safety of new products and is in the process of converting the shampoos and conditioners she uses to products that are natural, produced with renewable resources and have ingredients listed by the manufacturer. It is important to know what goes on your pet in case there is ever a reaction!

Philosophy: There has never been a time in my life where animals weren't a vital part of it. I can still feel the bottomless hole my precious kitty has left with her passing and I wait for the time when her spirit will guide another animal in need into our lives. I am a firm believer that the souls we meet today and our reaction towards them will affect how we are treated tomorrow. This is why I strive to treat all animals who cross my path with compassion, respect, and understanding. Sometimes the grooming process is a very scary and uncomfortable thing for them! I will be their voice if a procedure is too much for them to handle. I will also do my best to keep them protected and safe, feeling and looking their best when they leave my hands. "Do no harm," is not just for veterinarians. This code applies to everyone, especially the people who handle your pet several times more than your vet. Groomers are the second line of defense when it comes to managing medical issues. I will always alert you to anything new that I find with your pet.
