I just read this lovely book, The City Sings Green by Erica Silverman, to my youngest two kids. What a sweet surprise to learn about 11 different cities around the world where regular people came together to save endangered wildlife. If you ever feel like it is too late to save our earth, read this book! What we do can still make a positive difference!

Last night, my oldest daughter and I attended an event in Ann Arbor featuring Robin Wall Kimmerer talking about her new children's book. This book was made in an effort to share the message of her book Braiding Sweetgrass for the youngest of our world. Robin's talk was down to earth, relatable and very inspirational. Being in a packed church with an audience from all walks of life and every age was also very moving when it became clear that we were all united by our love of this good green earth. The laughter, the tears, the deep intellectual questions asked by the audience and Robin's thoughtful responses gave me so much hope and inspiration. Our world desperately needs wise elders to help guide us. And even though last night was the first time I met Robin Wall Kimmerer, she has held a special place in my heart as a dear mentor to me for over ten years. Thank you Robin, for using your gifts to heal our earth and each other and for guiding me on what my gifts for the earth are as well.

To know your gifts, Robin said, "What is the one thing you love too much to lose?"

And, one of my favorite quotes by her last night was:
"Raise good children, raise a garden, and raise a ruckus!"

I will be at a bonus day this summer at Belle Isle - Sunday, June 22 from Noon to 4 for a native plant sale. If everyone converted even half of their yard to native plants, we would make a huge impact for pollinators. The future is in our hands!

I will have my usual wares at the plant sale including soaps, lips balms, salve and garden signs!

Next weekend is the Annual Green Day Festival at Belle Isle! I will be there on Saturday with a booth selling my herbal products and signage. The Belle Isle Nature Center has excellent crafts for kids and I recommend the bee keeper talk by my friends from Green Toe Gardens!
