For those hardy souls that intend to attend the St. Patricks Day parade downtown, I'm going to post a little info.
The parade will start at Jefferson St and Highland Ave and goes past the city market. We will be waiting in lot D which looks to be about half way down Albemarle Ave. Our number is 50!
Carolyn Davis is usually the first to arrive and if she can check us in I'd greatly appreciate it! I'm bringing dogs for Sheila Rust, Carolyn Davis and Samantha Rackow to walk. I've got room for maybe one more if anyone wants a rent-a-greyhound to walk :)
Parade starts at 11am. I believe they will still have a shuttle going from the parking garage downtown to the beginning of the parade.

I had a group reach out to me for help transporting a mama dox mix and her 3 puppies. The legs needed in our area are Bristol to Wytheville 12:15pm to 1:50pm
Roanoke to Staunton 3:45pm to 4:50pm
We are doing the parade Sat and tied up. If anyone out there can assist pm me and I'll give info

We took in a neglect case from Princeton, WVa. 12 yr old man that was loose, on his own for 3 weeks while his owner was in the hospital. He's skinny, bad skin and weak in the rear, but he's got a soft place to land!

Huge thanks to everyone that helped out at the yard sale. Carolyn Davis and I started Weds, dragging out tables and setting them up and putting out stuff that was in sealed boxes and tubs. Thanks to Sheila Rust, Vicky Meadows Chafin, Carolyn Davis and Justin White for coming Friday and getting the shed unloaded and tables full of stuff. We had a few customers stop by Fri and did a couple hundred bucks right off! Thanks to Carolyn Davis, Andrew George, Sheila Rust and Euchrid Eucrow and the Vicky Meadows Chafins for getting here at the butt crack of dawn to get started on Saturday. It was our best yard sale at the kennel EVER with a total of almost $1400! Vincent outdid himself with cookies, the lemon/white choc chip are to die for and the brownies are supreme. One guy bought $8.00 of cookies! Thanks to Shelia for getting goodwill here Sat to take the stuff we didn't want to pack up again, barely made it before the monsoon hit! We had a couple tables we covered and left and the Vicky Meadows Chafins came back later and cleaned everything up and boxed up the rest of the stuff and loaded it in the building while I did feeding and turnout. All in all an excellent yardsale! We met a few not so nice people, but also several older gentlemen that absolutely made our day. The hounds and I greatly appreciate everyone's hard work, I definitely couldn't do it without you!

For at least a year PetSmart has discounted their soon to expire food for 75% off. I've done expiration policing at both local PetSmart and the dogs have really enjoyed the high test food for discounted prices, and the stores get to sell the food rather than throw it in the dumpster. PetSmart has now decided that they will no longer reduce soon to expire food for more than 50%. Lets just say some of the bags with a price tag over $60 bucks can stay on the shelf or get thrown in the dumpster as I can no longer afford it! I will say I'm a bit confused as to the method to their madness, as they will now take a total loss on the food. They have the option of discounting to non-profits/adoption partners and claiming the total price of the food, but 50% isn't near enough to make it doable for groups like me. If anyone is sitting around with a little time on their hands, maybe send PetSmart Corporate a little note that wishes they would either donate their soon to expire food to their adoption partners or at least go back to the 75%. Their 50% discount food will get thrown away! Thanks!

What kind of dogs did the Vikings keep? Here's one. It was buried with its master in Årby, Sweden more than a thousand years ago. It still had the remains of a collar and leash when found. What breed of a dog is it? According to the research it is more or less identical in size and build to a modern day grey hound (Swedish: vinthund). It can now be seen at the History Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.
