In honor of โ€˜Heart Health Monthโ€™ we wanted to share with you the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians post regarding Heart Health in ๐Ÿ‡ Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Ferrets.

If you have any concerns regarding the health of your unique pet or if your pet is exhibiting the signs of heart disease mentioned in the post, please call our clinic and a team member can assist you in scheduling an appointment with one of our Veterinarians.

๐Ÿ’™โœจ February is Heart Health Month! โœจ๐Ÿ’™

This month, weโ€™re raising awareness about cardiac health in exotic companion mammals! Just like cats and dogs, rabbits, ferrets, and even guinea pigs can also suffer from serious cardiovascular conditions.

Common signs of heart disease in exotic mammals:
โค๏ธ Lethargy or weakness
๐Ÿ’จ Increased respiratory effort or rate
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Decreased appetite or weight loss
๐Ÿฉบ Abnormal heart sounds or murmurs detected during veterinary exams

Early detection is key to managing heart disease! Routine veterinary check-ups, imaging (such as radiographs and echocardiograms), and proper diet and exercise can help keep our exotic patientsโ€™ hearts healthy.

Throughout February, weโ€™ll be sharing veterinary insights on diagnosing and managing cardiac disease in small exotic mammals. Stay tuned! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿน๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿพ
