I just ordered my seeds for the year. 🌱 And it's almost time to start some of them here in SW VA! Here's a list of most of the things I'll be growing this year, starting with Spring plants.
🥬Plants for Spring that tolerate cool temperatures
-onions
-Greens (lettuce, swiss chard, spinach, kale)
-Asparagus comes back every year!
-Peas! Shell or English peas are one of my kid's favorite spring snacks straight off the vine!
-Fava beans (new for me this year!)
-Carrots
-Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli ( I haven't been super successful with cauliflower and broccoli but I'm going to try again!)
-Turnips (small Asian varieties like Hakurei are our fave)
-Radishes
-Beets
-flowers like Snapdragons, poppies
-bee balm, yarrow, milkweed, echineacea, peonies come back every year
-Potatoes (we plant in March here)
-chamomile and cilantro
🌼Food we plant after the last frost around the first of May
-tomatoes (LOTS of cherry and larger varieties)
-okra
-cucumbers
-hot and sweet peppers
-squash and zucchini
-all the flowers! (Calendula, zinnia, strawflower, zinnia, sunflower, scabiosa, etc)
-Fruits that come back every year like strawberries, boysenberries, and raspberries
-green beans
-loofah
-Butterfly peas and tulsi for tea
-Herbs like basil, rosemary, sage, oregano, thyme, etc
-Delicata squash
I know I'm forgetting something but you get the idea! And my total garden space is less than 1/4 acre, probably smaller.
Trellising and companion planting are the ways I grow so much in so little space! 🍅🌶️ 🥗
What are y'all excited to grow this year?
