Roanoke Valley SPCA Adorable Adoptables A picture is worth a thousand words - and helps a homeless animal go "home." Check out our photographer's sneak peaks and bloopers.

As a limited admission facility, the pets at the Roanoke Valley SPCA Adoption & Education Center are safe from euthanasia, but until they have a permanent, loving home, they are not SAVED. They are not SAVED from a life of isolation and loneliness. They are not SAVED from depression and insecurity. They are not SAVED from the boredom of living in a confined space. They are not SAVED from anxiety a

nd lack of exercise opportunity. Three teams of volunteer photographers take pictures of the pets waiting for a home at the RVSPCA. Many fantastic photos end up on the "cutting room floor" and cannot be used on the many websites we use to promote adoption of the animals at the shelter. The Adorable Adoptables page contains entire albums of many of the pets waiting at the RVSPCA. If a picture is worth a thousand words...how much can an entire album be worth?

Our recent photoshoot included some very special dogs...
Nancy (1 year old black Australian Shepard) is a gentle, sweet soul that wanted cuddles and company...she's an absolute love and sure to be someone's best friend & lap warmer! Suki, the Siberian Husky is a friendly gal with striking ice-blue eyes that had us melting! Water-loving Gabby kept us laughing with her playful pool antics! Sugar is a happy lady with a winning smile! And charming Floyd is a smart and friendly guy who was delightful to spend time with! 🐶🐾

Our feline friends also had us head-over-heels!
We fell in love with two senior brothers... 15 year old Colby is a handsome white & tabby gentleman (with extra toes!) and 13 year old Ginsburg is an affectionate brown tabby with a shorter tail who just wanted to be cuddled-both kitties are super friendly and just want to be loved. 🐱🐱

We also met an adorable trio of kitten sisters (who thankfully have now found their furrever homes already!) 💜

❤️🐱 A Valentine for our sweet shy & adult pets 🐶 ❤️

We absolutely love meeting each special pet that we photograph, and as universally cute as kittens and puppies are, it's often the adorable seniors, adults, shy, and special needs pets that tug the most at our heartstrings. Their backstories vary, and in most cases they've had previous homes. It's an honor to spend a little bit of time with these loveable pets and learn their personalities. it truly gives us on the photo team a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that thanks to the Roanoke Valley SPCA and you, that they will find their right matches, at exactly the right time.❤️

Recent special pets that have us completely wrapped around their paws are:
• Brenda, a shy but sweet girl who needs some TLC and an adopter with patience
• Koda, a former alumni of the shelter who has found his way back and in need of a new home
• Momma Bear, an adorable kitty with a very unique smile thanks to her overbite

💜💜 A love letter to Samantha from the photo team 💜💜

We had a photoshoot with Samantha this week and even though it was once again a joy to spend time with this sweet, energetic 5 year-old girl, we were both so surprised to see that she’s still waiting for her forever home.

We learned that she will be happiest as the one and only special pup, and we easily imagined her going on walks or jogs with whoever her lucky new guardian will be, playing in her new backyard, and getting head rubs. She delighted in playing with a kong toy, stretching her legs, and having our company. She joyfully took treats—very gently and politely—from our hands. She was a very good listener, and at all times her sweet, trusting spirit shone through.

She looks like she’s always smiling, always hopeful, always upbeat, always happy to see her friends at the Roanoke Valley SPCA. Yet we knew as we watched her running in the play yard, feeling the warm sunshine through the chilly morning air and enjoying the grass underneath her feet, that she deserves a special home of her own. A special person—or people—of her very own.

So we, the volunteer photo team, decided to make sure that everyone knows how good, how loving, how fun, how beautiful, how special Samantha is. Did we mention how photogenic?

Before being adopted yesterday, we got to spend some time with Mavis and let her play with a Kong wobble toy in the play yard. We're so happy she gets to play in her new home now!

This week’s photoshoot had us completely 🍁🍂 🐱 FALLing for felines! 🐱🍂🍁

The purr-o-meter count was off the charts today as we met sweet, playful, affectionate kittens with loud purring motors... Licorice made us giggle with her wand toy antics! her brother Skittles showed us his handsome set of white antenna whiskers! These adorable siblings cuddled together for a well earned nap after their camera time.

We also met Twizzlers, Sprinkles, Mystery and Honeynut--all darlings!

What’s more fun than one tortie kitten? Two tortie kittens! (siblings Acorn & Zucchini)

Shy 2 year old sweetheart Laila made air biscuits as she warmed up to us and we were instantly enchanted with this special lady. Maine C**n cutie Fur Baby charmed us with her elegant floofy tail and affectionate manner.

We sure enjoyed spending time with these awesome kitties and hope they all get their FURRever homes very soon!

The FURcast for our recent photoshoot revealed sunny dispositions and tail wags despite the rain! On the feline front, sweet & shy sisters Alvin and Symba warmed up quickly with chin rubs and toys--and best of all, purrs! Playful Smokey entertained us with her energy and all-around cuteness.🐾 On the canine front, beautiful Samantha won our hearts with her sweet personality--she's also a great listener and very affectionate--a real sunshine! Cletus is a charming & spry 10 yr old gentleman (you'd never guess!) with the most loving spirit! We had such a fun time photographing all of these pretty pets and hope they'll find their new homes very quickly!

Saturday’s photo shoot was totally the art and science of cuteness! Clever orange tabby sisters Einstein and Faraday had us wrapped around their paws as they cuddled in their hammock and Faraday did Jazzpaws! for us. The dancing continued with two of our sweet, playful artist kittens Georgia and Pablo—Georgia did some hula moves while her brother Pablo purred loudly for background music!

For all of you big headed girl lovers out there, please meet Ila (pronounced Eye-La) . She is gentle, sweet and just wants to be loved... don't we all? 🤗 She wants to be the only four legged girl in the house and will love you forever. Coco is gorgeous inside and out. We can't believe how friendly this petite little girl is, and she's got the sweetest little purr. She really loves a lap to cuddle up in, but when a lap isn't available, we found out she likes to sleep under her covers. If you're looking for a little love bug, this girl is for you!

Yesterday we met Cindy Lou, and today we met her brother: Bumble! He's just as sweet as she is and his longer hair is so incredibly soft! At only 5 months old, he's still a puppy and loves to play with toys, but he's social and was very gentle with us. In fact, he really enjoyed cuddles and calmed down very quickly.
