Meet Baretta, Baby, and Ghost! These three lovely horses were rescued from a local Last Chance shelter, and have found their way to an enthusiastic owner who is entrusting me with their training. I hope you’ll follow along and enjoy their progress, as each of these will be available for re-homing within the next 90 days. Feel free to reach out at any point if you’re interested!
Baretta - black/white tobiano mare, under 10 years old, has had previous handling by inexperienced people, so she’s developed a few (easily corrected) bad habits, but she wants a job and a partner!
Baby - bay overo mare, about 6 years old. Minimal handling, and suffers from separation anxiety. She’s definitely on the short side, but has a cute little build and precious demeanor. She really wants a friend, both in horses and people!
Ghost - 11 year old gray Appaloosa gelding. Definitely has had previous handling as he’s got lovely ground manners and trailers very well. Supposedly broke to ride, but we’ll need to figure out what all he knows for sure. Very sweet boy, just wants to be loved!

Now accepting horses for TEACHING! Are you ready to take your equestrian experience to the next level? In our Modern Horsemanship program, you will learn to communicate with your horse in ways that will revolutionize your everyday riding and in the show ring. By putting a primary focus on TEACHING rather than training, and adjusting the methods used for the individuality of your equine partner, we help horses build confidence in themselves and in their handlers, and help them develop a sense of responsibility for their side of the partnership.
With every 30 day period of training, you will receive 4 FREE LESSONS in handling and riding your horse, so you can learn with them! And of course we will take your personal needs into consideration while we develop your partner, so that the two of you will be able to leave our care with ultimate confidence and comfort, and enjoy success wherever you go.
NEW YEARS SPECIAL: Sign up between Dec 25 and Jan 1 and get your first 30 days at half price!
Regular price for 30 day period: $500.
Call or text 682-235-2472 to book the start of your next journey!

Now partnering with Hokey Pokey Ranch in Poolville, TX! Rescue horses have had a very large influence on my training, and I am so excited to be able to work with another great organization. Meet Gunsmoke, a personal horse of the HP Ranch’s owner, Rikki. Rikki rescued this sweet boy from a kill pen when he was just 3 WEEKS OLD, and has raised him since. Gunsmoke had his very first round penning session today, and I’ll be training him to be a cart horse.
If you would like to start your journey with your horse, whether it’s c**t starting or retraining, or just furthering what you’ve already got, the team here at Proof I Can - Modern Horsemanship is ready to help!
Horse training runs at $500/month with 4 FREE LESSONS each month so you can learn with your horse!

Weekly horsemanship tip: Connecting with your horse

A common thing all horse owners concern themselves with is the connection they share with their horse. This connection can vary in depth in an emotional sense, and often will affect our work with our equine partners. So the question is: how do I develop a connection with my horse?
Regardless of how long you will be working with the horse in consideration, connections will always matter, and no matter the case, Lisa Stewart (co-manager of PIC-MH) recommends the “3 p’s”: Patience, Persistence, and Praise.
Patience. Every horse is unique, much like us humans. It takes time to get to know someone and gain their trust, and especially more so with an animal that communicates in such a different manner than us. So be patient with your horse, and take time to observe their personality. This is especially important with rescues, who may have come from abusive or neglected backgrounds.
Persistence. Considering your horse’s background, perhaps there are some old habits that are hard to kick. Maybe you’ve made a lot of progress, but every now and then, a relapse is inevitable. In some cases - like with rescues - it may almost feel hopeless. But in the end, your horse will greatly appreciate your persistence, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment when at last your goal is reached. Persistence in achieving your goals with your horse helps strengthen the bond between you two.
Praise. When you did well in school or at home, it felt good for your actions or behavior to be recognized and appreciated, right? Praise did a lot in building your self-confidence. The same is true of our equine partners. Of course, praise comes in many different forms, and can differ between each horse. Sometimes it’s simply taking a break from the task at hand, sometimes it’s loving scratches in their favorite spot, and sometimes it’s a treat. This is where assessing the appropriate praise for the job and learning your horse’s personality will come in handy. Praising your horse for a job well done will do wonders for building your connection.

TL;DR: Patience in getting to know your horse, persistence in teaching them, and praise for every bit of progress will quickly build a bond that won’t soon be broken!

Meet the founders! Lisa Stewart and Audrey Moore have both had lifelong passions for all things horses. Since meeting, they’ve become the best of friends, and started to brainstorm a way to put together their individual knowledge and skills to share with the equine industry. Hence, Proof I Can - Modern Horsemanship, For the Modern Equestrian. They’ve brought together methods from studies of many horsemen and women, as well as their own personal experiences, to create the techniques they identify as “modern” horsemanship.
