Its been quiet around here but big things are happening. We are waitiing on our 501c3 but that hasn't stopped us.
- After Easter we will start the adoption process for Spicey. ( female Scarlett Macaw) . Before then we will do her bio, and present our adoption process.
- We have a unique situation with Lumi ( male 35 year old , unbrella cockatoo ) our lastest intake. He has unique needs and we may be open to adoption to the perfect home , we know exactly what he needs and what we are looking for. We will be listing his bio , we will presenting his adoption process.
- we have a shy but friendly and fully tame albino quaker parrot , who had a foot injury and is missing toes from being bullied by another quaker . She is in our care , healing nicely , we are hoping to get her to a point of molting which will indicate to us her stress level is down before her adoption. We will post her bio and our adoption process .
- Starting in June . We will have a fully operational website with handmade toys with many exciting new materials such as monkey pods, lotus pods , large cork bark hanging foragers . Our goal is to be able to purchase a freeze dryer to offer healthy freeze dried chop both locally and via mail order . If you need toys before June please PM us . We are also planning on traveling to bird fairs with our toys to promote our business.
- We will be working towards a store front and education space early 2027 , to provide , parrot appropriate toys , play gyms , cages , diets , including fresh and freeze dried chop , nail , beak , and feather care .A chance to mingle with parrots waiting on adoption. We will offer dna testing and disease testing and so much more for your feathered companions !!!
- we consider ourself unique in that yes we are a rescue , we are also not against the ethical breeding of parrot species which are endangered and are bred by aviculturists who choose the best of the best , conduct health testing and maintain high standards of environmental sanitation . We do not support the breeding of partots because its cute or fun . That being said we will occasionally raise clutches of harder to find parrots entrusted to us to ethically raise the offspring and thoughougly vet adopters and provide adopters with education, regarding the species proper care. Proper housing and proper diet.
* we will be offering Grey and Violet Indian Ringnecks hand raised by Jonah clutch is pictured below *
* we will also be raising a clutch of difficult to find blue crown conures late spring**
No parrot , hand raised or rescued will be sent home after adoption approval without proof of cage , appropriate, enrichment and what will be used for put of cage time. All birds will have proof of health testing , DNA certificate , and any vet work necessary for rescues that we had completed.
** Due to new laws regarding quaker parrots in Virginia we will only take very specific cases into rescue . Virginia now requires all quaker parrots to be either banded or permitted. They cannot leave our rescue unless you have completed and sent in the permit ( we will help you do this) . This is due to the overpopulation quakers and the development of at least 5 wild flocks being tracked in Virginia as a result of people letting their quakers go. ** We are not a proponent of breeding any more quaker parrots as there is a huge overpopulation and rescues are full of them . We get weekly calls to take them in. " please be aware Vets are now by law required to band your quaker if you cannot provide a permit and keep a record of your quaker , they are required to ask where your quaker was obtained and gather name. Address etc. Of the store or breeder. This is Virginia Law .
Due to being carriers of several avian diseases we no longer take in lovebirds , cockateils, or parakeets unless you can show proof they have been tested for all avian diseases in the last 14 days before surrender . Again these are very overpopulated species , many spreading diseases because the owner is clueless as the birds are carriers and show no active disease .
Our first Board meeting will be via messenger video call in May . We would like to have 2 current parrot owners to be on our board.
** No parrot leaves without attending an education session with Jonah or myself regarding the species you have been approved to adopt ***
Thanks for getting through this post .
I should add , any drama ...you will be banned immediately.
If you need to surrender a parrot , please PM immediately for an intake form and interview . We are known for rehabbing very difficult cases and are focusing on legal seizures of neglect and hoarding cases but we can discuss your parrots situation.
