Taking it all the way back to 1992 for this gem of a song (I remember driving to Orlando to buy this CD because none of the stores where I lived at the time had it)…but the words are so true for me. I really do hate July!

It’s way too hot.
Humidity is too high.
Fireworks.
Too many bugs.
Hot cars.
High power bills.
Too much rain.
Not enough rain.
Markets are slow.
Sales are down.
Everything is struggling to survive.

For those of you that have asked, here’s a glimpse of a bit of my houseplant collection - I’m somewhere around 90 plants.…about half the size of my original collection I had back when I lived in Florida. If you’ve purchased a plant from me, it came from one of these beauties 😍

I’m a proud second generation plant lady - born in the 70s, the daughter of an OG plant lady…and a botany nerd with a spreadsheet that lists all of my plants by scientific name…don’t even get me started on the all of the mistakes I see out there related to scientific nomenclature. Carl Linnaeus would roll over in his grave!!

There’s a science to creating a fragrance - there are top, middle and bottom scent notes to consider, scent ratios and safe usage rates (which vary depending on the end product). It’s not as simple as dumping it all in and calling it done because that’s a recipe for disaster in multiple ways.
There are thousands of off the shelf fragrances and essential oils out there. And just as many essential oil blend “recipes” can be found online but I don’t trust my products to random internet strangers! I want to make 100% sure that my products are safe, follow regulatory guidelines (yep, there are actual rules for making and labeling these types of products), smell great, and are unique.
So my latest creation is a beautiful custom scent blend of cedarwood, patchouli, and lemongrass essential oils, with rose clay and French clay for color. Inside my signature h**p soap bar, of course! This soap is on the curing rack and will make its debut on July 26th!

Happy 4th! Tomorrow we will have our first tomatoes, squash, peppers and tomatillos of the season!
Some of you have asked when they would arrive and why we didn’t have them at the market yet…the answer is because we only sell what we grow ourselves and Mother Nature is in charge!
And of course, we will have bouquets too - each one is different so get there early to choose your favorite!
See you tomorrow at Salem Farmers Market from 8-12 or until sold out!
