Schaefer's Miniature American Shepherds, located in North Carolina, is a small hobby breeder that strives to produce quality pups that are structurally correct, have great temperaments and are free from genetic defects. We believe that every dog has something special to offer, be it on the herding field, in the conformation ring, participating in performance events, or as a devoted family member.

We strive to produce pups that are physically and mentally capable of fulfilling their potential. We love dogs that can do any job asked of them and can look good doing it.

Good morning Tonya,

I hope you're doing well! These are the parents of Bagel (formerly known as Sapote). We wanted to send you a long-overdue update on Bagel (son of Genne & Reddington). He’s now happily living his life in central Virginia, and we couldn’t love him more!

Bagel is 9 months old and weighs just over 27 pounds. He’s a professional eater, a part-time sprinter, and a full-time napper and cuddle enthusiast. He brings so much joy and love to our home and neighborhood every day.

We've attached some photos from the past few months that capture his growth. The little tail he had when we first picked him up has now grown into a beautiful plume. Feel free to share any of the photos on your website!

Thank you again for bringing this wonderful pup into our lives.

Hi Tonya,

As you likely know, Chili recently turned 1 year old! So I thought I'd send a brief update. Feel free to post if you want!

She is now 20 pounds of attitude and brains. She's so wickedly smart. We started agility classes in January and she is doing amazing and the trainers there love her! We're also working towards her Novice Tricks and CGC titles. I had wanted to get those under her belt much earlier, but life got in the way, as it tends to do. Now that she's one, I also want to start looking into getting her involved in flyball. At home she's very affectionate with my boyfriend and I, always getting between our legs and wanting to be held. She does love to bark, however, but that has been an ongoing battle between us.
Her and Fiona, my older dog, are two peas in a pod now. Although they don't play together much, they definitely stick together and watch each other's backs. She does have some leash reactivity, but I believe it's just due to having learned from Fiona (who has some fear aggression towards other dogs). When on walks without Fiona, she does just fine and does really well with other dogs when she's off leash. See pictures below!
