Someone has to know something. If you know and don't speak up you are just as guilty as the person who allowed this dog to get in this condition. That collar doesn't look old and worn so somebody has to have known about this dog.

Recently I had a disagreement with a few networkers for open intake shelters. One of the networkers said they had a rescue for a dog that was being put on the euthanasia list. When I asked what rescue it was or if due diligence had been done about checking the rescue out (since several of us long time rescues had never heard of them), her response was "they are a rescue, it's better than the dog being dead". Now most that have followed this page have heard me say that unfortunately there are things worse than humane euthanasia. Found this story today and have read up on it and looked at some of the pictures. So would humane euthanasia been better than starving to death? And who knows about what the skeletal remains ones went through before passing away.
Cane-9 Rescue & Sanctuary Investigation and Animal Rescue Efforts
A major animal welfare operation has taken place at the Cane-9 Rescue & Sanctuary property in Cheatham County, Tennessee, after an ongoing investigation into its founder, Jennifer Lovette Caneup.

Animals and Rescue Operation
On August 14, 2026, Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) conducted Operation Money Trail, rescuing 47 animals from the Ashland City property, including:

37 dogs (six nursing puppies)

7 chickens

2 turkeys

1 pig Yahoo+1

The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office requested ARC’s help for large-scale support, evidence collection, forensic documentation, veterinary triage, and emergency sheltering. ARC said the animals were in pens and kennels scattered across the property, with some in unhealthy conditions Yahoo.

Legal and Criminal Cases
Jennifer Caneup, the founder, was booked in Nashville on July 30, 2026 and held without bond on an out-of-state felony warrant from Georgia WKRN News 2+1. She faces extradition to Georgia, where her brother-in-law, Joshua Caneup, was arrested the same day on 18 counts of animal cruelty, including two counts of aggravated cruelty WKRN News 2+1.

Joshua is accused of:

Starving a young animal to death

Keeping multiple animals in a sunroom with no ventilation, producing such a strong odor that officers could not breathe WKRN News 2+1

Background and Donor Concerns
Cane-9 Rescue & Sanctuary, founded in late 2025, claims to rescue dogs, horses, goats, chickens, and ducks, offering adoption, fostering, and donations WKRN News 2+1. However:

The Tennessee Department of State says the organization has not been registered to accept charitable donations in the state Hoodline+1.

An Atlanta activist reported in mid-2026 that donations for promised medical care were not delivered WKRN News 2+1.
Current Status
No charges against Jennifer Caneup have been publicly detailed beyond the warrant, and neither she nor Joshua has been convicted. The Tennessee Department of State is investigating the lack of charitable registration, while ARC and other groups are working to ensure the rescued animals receive proper care Change.org.

Bottom line: The Cane-9 Rescue & Sanctuary case is unfolding with multiple criminal investigations, a major animal rescue operation, and ongoing scrutiny over its operations and donor accountability.

Bertie County animal shelter has been closed by the state. Sad when a county run shelter won't update their facility or even do paperwork correctly.
