Village of Riverwoods

Village of Riverwoods Incorp. in 1959 from property originally part of the Ryerson Estate, Riverwoods carries on The Ryerson's tradition of living in harmony with the enviroment.

Riverwoods is a unique community in the Chicago North Shore area that was originally conceived to allow residents to live among the trees. Incorporated in 1959 from property originally part of the Ryerson Estate, Riverwoods carries on Edward Ryerson's tradition of living in harmony with the environment. Situated on the banks of the Des Plaines River, Riverwoods has easy access to the transportatio

n, retail and business amenities of the North Shore but provides a quiet and natural respite from traditional suburban living. Many properties within the village are large heavily wooded lots accessible from private roads where some residents are able to house horses. We are a small community of about 3500 residents and share public services with neighboring villages such as Deerfield, Lincolnshire, Bannockburn and Northbrook. The village is managed by a Mayor and a Board of Trustees. The village also has it own Police Department to service the community.

Please be aware that Clarke Mosquito, a contractor working in coordination with the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD), is planning to conduct a larval mosquito control treatment using Natular® G30, applied via helicopter on Thursday, May 21, beginning at approximately 7:00 AM, weather permitting.

This aerial operation will target locations along the railroad tracks running parallel to Rt. 41 as well as, a small portion of Riverwoods along the Des Plaines River just west of Thornmeadow Road. This daytime treatment targets mosquitoes in their immature stages before they emerge as adults.
