Meet Charlie! This sweet girl is looking for a forever home. She has been through at least 3 different homes and would like the last one to be the last one. Charlie needs a quieter home with no kids and no other dogs. She prefers women, not a fan of hats but is a HUGE FAN of cheese. Charlie would love to be someone's shadow. She needs a home where she will be included in their everyday activities. Please contact RSAC if you think she might be what you are missing in your life.

Bringing a new rescue animal home is an exciting time! To help your new furry friend adjust, remember the 3-3-3 rule! This widely recognized guideline helps set expectations for how your rescue animal may behave in their new environment and how you can support them.

First 3 Days: Overwhelmed & Observing

Your new pet is likely feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and may be shut down. They're trying to figure out their new surroundings, sights, sounds, and smells.

They might hide, not eat much, or seem withdrawn.

What you can do: Offer a quiet, safe space (a crate, a separate room), minimize new experiences, and let them approach you on their terms. Focus on routine: feeding, potty breaks, and a consistent schedule.

First 3 Weeks: Settling In & Showing True Personality

As they get more comfortable, their true personality will start to emerge! They might feel more relaxed and adventurous.

This is often when behavioral issues (if any) may start to surface, as they feel secure enough to express themselves.

What you can do: Begin gentle training, introduce them to more of your home and family members (gradually!), and continue to build trust through positive reinforcement. Establish clear boundaries and expectations.

First 3 Months: Fully Adjusted & Feeling at Home

By now, your pet should be feeling fully comfortable and bonded with you and your family. They understand their routine, trust their environment, and their true personality is shining!

They're integrated into your household and truly feel like part of the family.

What you can do: Continue with training, socialization, and providing plenty of love, enrichment, and exercise!

Remember, every animal is an individual, and some may adjust faster or slower than others. Patience, understanding, and consistency are key! If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to Paws for Life Animal League for support and resources.
