I started this journey of creation many years ago in the late 1970s while training K9 dogs for the Sheriff's department.
Although I loved the hard mouth short coat and size of the Rottweiler I valued the intelligence and loyalty of the German shepherd imports from West Germany as well and the versatility of the german shepherd breed. I had long been a fancier of the bulldog breeds (American bulldog and American pitbull terrier) for their tenacity and ability to work alone. The self confidence they exhibited was truly a testimony to the quality of the breeding program behind these wonderful working breeds. Another one of my favorite dog groups was the mastiff for its level head compleate devotion to its family and large intimidating size. At some point I realized that if dog fanciers like Mosley, Washington and Doberman could create dogs to serve a particular purpose then so could I, after all I had been infatuated with dogs since I was 4 years old and read everything I could get my hands on regarding the subject. I also worked with dogs in one capacity or another since I was a boy (kennelman,Vet assistant, Dog trainer, Decoy and Breeder). But still I wanted to run my ideas by the older professionals who I looked up to and learned from in my lengthy tootaledge. I shared my thoughts regarding this idea of the perfect Guardian companion and the traits I wanted the Ambullneo Mastiff to possess and then I began to look for the ideal candidate to represent each of the dog breeds evolved. In total I decided on five breeds that together would hopefully make the perfect blend of bulldog and mastiff. Some asked me why bulldog and why mastiff and my answer was simply I realize that when dogs are used in a line breeding program your dogs will eventually get smaller in size. Besides the large size of the mastiff I liked the guarding qualities and defense drive the mastiff brought to the program. Although at the time the neopolitan mastiff was very rare in Southern California they were prevalent in Italy so that's where I went originally for the very best females money could buy. Procuring an English mastiff in the U.S. for my breeding program was next to impossible because most people had never heard of such a thing at the time. I was constantly being asked what kind of mongrel are you trying to create just buy an AKC dog . People involved in kennel clubs were frightened to get involved for fear of being thrown out and turned into a pariah. But with the right contract in place stating their name and the dogs name would never be mentioned and twice the cost they normally charged for the stud fee the deal was struck and the breeding program went from my mind to a hand written blueprint and finally into fuition. This was only the beginning but we were off and running and though it was becoming very expensive I was finally getting the opportunity to produce and observe the mastiffs I would select for the foundation of my program. I followed a strict protocol conducive to the above mentioned criteria and with every candidate that made the cut the dogs got closer to what I had imagined them to be. Now that the foundation mastiffs had been produced I was ready for the infusion of the bulldog. Only after many months of continuous testing and comparing one dog to another was I able to make the decision based on the stud dog's progeny and ability to throw his many attributes. Although this was only half of the breeding program we were well on our way. Later on the American bulldog and Bullmastiff were introduced to the breeding program creating a 57.5 mastiff 42.5 bulldog cross and the F1 breeding stock was procured. I repeated this same program three times with different specimens and began to weave the F2, F3, and so on until we have the dogs of today. Not long after our F7 breedings hit the ground we were accepted for registration by the National kennel club and are very happy to be one of the many fine breeds to represent this fine establishment with our Ambullneo Mastiffs for the past 20+ years. That was
many years ago and though we've faced many challenges the breeding program has only gotten better as time goes by. I have been the shepherd guiding and guarding the breed from any and all adversarial entities. As the cost of dog food, Vet bills, water, electricity and kennel help begin to skyrocket monetary adjustments must be and have been made. My staff myself and the many people involved in the breeding program will continue to produce the highest quality Ambullneo Mastiff puppies and trained adults available any where in the world. In the past forty years I've met many people some who understand the complexity and importance of the continued high standards of my breeding program and some who don't. I would like to thank all the people who have helped contribute to the success and quality of the Ambullneo Mastiff. If you are fortunate enough to own an Ambullneo mastiff you like your dog are a rare breed. And being a rare breed the breeding program continues to grow as we create better quality more highly intelligent dogs and puppies. I will need the continued help and support from those people helping with this wonderful breeding program. And I thank you for that
God bless you all and Happy holidays.
