✨New Iowa City Community Pack Walk✨

Aaron here ☺️ we’ll be hosting a community pack walk and all are invited! We’d love to see you there.

Fun event for all! Community pack walk to help dogs get exposure to other dogs and people in a fun safe way.

Rules:
1. All dogs must be on a 6 foot leash. No retractable leash please.
2. No dogs shall interact.
3. All walking tools are welcomed. Harness, prongs, slips leash’s etc. there will be no tool shaming.
4. All people are invited.

If you are a person who is always afraid to speak out your mind, easily offended by simple things others say or do, very insecure about not being popular - you are going to struggle with serious dog rehabilitation work.

When l hear other people’s criticism, my default reaction is: “Why are you telling me this? Why are you wasting my time?”

Behaviour rehab is not trick training. You need to know that most people out there are wrong. They dont know what they are talking about. They dont have the talent and instinct that you have.

You need to have very strong self conviction and extreme self confidence. You need to deeply believe in yourself. Trust your judgement and keep problem solving. Keep doing what makes sense to you.

If you let fear or doubt overcome you, you will fail. And your dog will not improve.

Stay very strong, if not for yourself, do it for your dog.

-My thought on "saying hi" to a random dog on the street-

This is my thought on "saying hi" to random dogs on the street.

A lot of people with reactive/aggressive dogs will say their dogs are "friendly". Their dogs may even look "friendly" in the first couple seconds - until they suddenly snap.

l never go up to a random dog or let my dog "say hi" to a random dog. All my children know not to do that since they were very young. They will never ask "can l pet your dog?" to a complete stranger.

Leaving someone else's dog alone is showing that dog the respect and love he/she needs. It is showing respect and consideration towards the other owner.

That dog whom we know nothing about could be reactive, anxious, fearful, aggressive or just being too hyper around people - none of those problems will benefit from being approached by a stranger in an uncontrolled setting.

In today's society where we are constantly encountering dogs with behavioural issues, it is our responsibility to keep our dogs safe. It only takes one or two unfortunate incidents to turn an otherwise friendly dog into dog reactive/aggressive.

Our safety and that of our dogs should be our number one priority.

Also, our dogs are not petting zoo animals. They are not public properties. They do not exist solely for the purpose of allowing strangers to touch and hug them anytime someone may feel the urge to do so. Please respect dogs' feelings and need for personal space.

If the public could have a bit more empathy towards other dogs and their owners, and understand that love is about respecting the space and need of what is best for whom we love (not our selfish wants), perhaps we will see less bite incidents, and hopefully, less reactive/aggresive dogs as well.

Blue and Cash are two very sweet boys who are father and son. We were helping their family by providing these dogs with emergency housing. But their family was unable to secure housing to take the dogs back, so they trusted us to find them a new home. This loving pair will be a wonderful addition to their new home. They love people and are usually wearing happy smiles. It has not been easy transitioning to living in a kennel and losing the only family they’ve known. But these two resilient boys have captured our hearts with their resilience. They simply want to live life happy. Our application link is pawsandmorewashington.org/adopt. They are neutered, vaccinated and will be microchipped when they are adopted. We are searching for a short term foster, long term foster or adopter for them.
