Spring is upon us and that means “kitten season” is here! Feral cats will be looking for places to have their kittens. We get tons of calls this time of year about feral cats moving into areas that home and business owners may not want them- like under porches, into garages and sheds, around businesses, and sometimes even into basements of homes. Of course, nobody wants to see these cats out in the cold or dark with no protection.

Within the City of Fond du Lac, Critter Junction is in charge of the Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program. We have heard your concerns and agree that it would be beneficial to have a map available to the community of where the feral cats are being released and how many, including the locations of their feeding spots and how many warming boxes are available in the area with their locations.

If you see a pregnant feral cat in the City of Fond du Lac, please do not wait! Try to catch her in a kennel or live trap and call us at 920-922-8873 before she delivers. If we have room for her, we can provide a safe and warm place for her to have her kittens. A kitten’s best chance of survival is with its mother. Please see the chart below to know how to handle a situation of finding kittens. If you don’t have to, please do not touch the kittens!

If we take in a truly feral pregnant cat, after the kittens are weaned, mom will be placed in our Career Cat program where farmers outside the city limits adopt them. We do bloodwork, vaccinate, and get the cat spayed before adoption. If mom is not truly feral and is friendly and healthy, she will be placed for adoption.

If you have concerns, we suggest you attend a city council meeting. Here is a link to all of their upcoming dates and times: https://www.fdl.wi.gov/calendar/series/city-council-meeting-5/ As always, thank you for sharing your concerns with us!
