All month long, we’re spotlighting the importance of keeping all members of our family—pets and people—up to date on vaccines. Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to prevent serious illness across a lifespan—and yes, that includes our beloved dogs and cats! 🐶🐱

Human Health: Why It Matters
National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) runs from August 1–31, aiming to remind individuals and families to stay current with recommended vaccines throughout life

Immunizations protect from dangerous diseases (like measles, flu, pneumonia, and shingles) and help protect our communities too .

🐾 Pet Health: Don’t Forget Them!
The same principle applies to our furry companions—vaccines help guard pets from life-threatening illnesses and prevent disease spread
Typical vaccines include:

Dogs: Rabies, distemper, parvo, hepatitis, Bordetella (“kennel cough”), Lyme, leptospirosis, and canine influenza
Cats: Rabies, FVRCP (panleukopenia, calicivirus, herpesvirus), FeLV, and sometimes Bordetella or FIV depending on lifestyle
Puppies and kittens typically start vaccines at 6–8 weeks old, followed by boosters through ~20 weeks. Adult pets then need boosters annually or every 3 years depending on the vaccine
