Halfass Ranch added some new Dexter blood to the herd. Unicorn, a very traditional looking Dexter cow and her daughter Heidi the “hidex” and highland Dexter cross.

UPDATE: black and dun heifers are spoken for. Cow is the only one left.

Several girls available. 6month, 18months, 6yr old cow. Cow is ADCA registered, 6 month old is her calf and eligible for registration. Cow is broke to milk and a great producer. Cow is red and horned, calf is black and polled. Cow has been exposed to our bull.

18month old is ADCA eligible too and has a permanent ID number. She’s dun and polled Mom produces a lot of milk and big calves. She’s friendly enough to walk up to and scratch.

I love all these girls but hubby says I have to get rid of some dexters before I get a couple bigger beef breed cows.

If you are unfamiliar with Dexters; they are dual purpose (meat and milk) smaller than commercial beef breeds. The cow mature to be about 800lbs. Easy calving, docile/gentle dispositions are pillars of the breed. I run my herd primarily by myself with 3 little kids running around with no worries. I’ve had other breeds and I would never do that with other breeds.

Perfect for homesteaders, newbies, and small operations.

First calf of the season born yesterday! It’s a bull 😀

3/4 of a grass fed beef available $6/lb, quarters on this steer were weighing in between 70-80lbs wrapped and packaged. Picture has the butcher cuts we kept for ourselves, but gives you an idea of what’s inside the wrapped packages.

One of my favorite parts of our farm to plate ranch are the special cuts that Justin keeps for us.

We a working on a steer that was about 750 lbs hanging weight, and Justin just brought in the first few “butcher cuts” for me to wrap.

Hanger steak for the Jones family for dinner tonight!
