Teeth. Not as big of a topic in ABs as it should be.

Underbites are the standard in every registry, with reverse scissors listed as the preference for standard type dogs and scissors bite is either acceptable or a minor fault.

I prefer scissors bites, it's just a better arrangement. Underbites get weird, fast. Malocclusion is so common it's not even funny. We need to be keeping tabs on the mouths of our dogs.

Here are Glory's teeth - she's only my second current dog to have a scissors bite with the rest being tight undershot. Cuda had nice big teeth with a level bite and hopefully I can keep these big teeth and continue to produce nice scissors bites.

Glory girl 🥰 It's been over 2 years since her last session, closer to 3 since she's seen Justin. So, she knows the game and was clearly ready to get the party started but had never been to this park before.

For her 9th time ever doing bitework, not too shabby 😏😉 She's a forward and spicy girl, I am so excited for her future.

There is more to this session, I will post the other clips separately as peicing all of Warlock's clips together gave me a headache 😆 This is unedited except for combining two clips and trying to zoom it in.

Thank you again for taking videos for me and helping to relight the fire for training ❤️

Another custom nylon working harness in action, seriously go get yourselves one!

And also again, very tankful to for working the bulldogs

Warlock, my pick from the Darwin x Roxy (Cuda x Vivid) colab breeding with Valor ABs and Sandhill Kennels. His first time in front of a decoy. Yes, you read that right this is first time doing bitework. Everything here is new to him - you see me coming onto the field for the first time with him. Just got him out of his crate, new place, new people, new equipment. He comes out thinking it's just a stroll at the park, but quickly realizes that there is fun s**t happening. I'm excited to start his journey into protection sports. This is the full session with some minor few second time jumps as it's pieced together from multiple clips where a tiny bit of the action is missing from recording stops/restarts, but is otherwise unedited. Fun short snazzy edited clips coming next lol.

(Playing with your own dog, flirt pole, and spring pole does not count as bitework, people 🙃)

Thank you for taking video for me!!
Thank you to for working the blockheads, I really appreciate your openness to off breeds and your consistent, thoughtful work. Hope you're not too sore from the thrashing 🤣

The American Bulldog is a Guardian breed, and although there are many lines within the breed that are no longer bred for this purpose - Ferocia dogs are. A nice write up I thought would be a good share for everyone.

Another update from the 2023 Vivid x Mucho litter! This is Hank!

His owners report:

"He weighs around 105-110 lbs. He’s such a lover! We love him so much! We couldn’t ask for a better dog."

This always makes me so happy to see.

While working homes and titles are always sought after for placements, pet homes are not any less important. There just is not enough of a market for working bulldogs, and very few people in that market that I trust to send puppies to.

Being real, less than 50% of a litter (on average) is really suitable for higher levels of work. Some puppies are obviously suited as an active pet in a dog savvy home, some are obviously not suited for pet homes and need a working home, and most are in between, able to go either way.

I would rather a puppy with potential to title be adored in an experienced pet home and never obtain titles, than be neglected or mishandled in a working home while obtaining titles.

I would rather puppies go do nosework, Barnhunt, rally, and non protection sport activities in a home that takes care of them than living in a crate in between bitework sessions. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The well-being of my dogs is paramount, even if potential is never met.

Interested in fun sporting activities, performance events, and/or conformation with a bulldog? I'd love to chat! I am always seeking co-own working/sporting homes.

This big handsome guy is Prince! He was my second pick working male from 2023 B litter, Vivid x Mucho. His owner reports:

"He is doing great! He is a gentle giant weighing in at 100 lbs. He has trained up well, is gorgeous and has a wonderful, playful dog sense of humor. Loves other dogs and is respectful of their boundaries... and he loves people.

We’ve worked on his agility and search & rescue training and he’s shaping up well there also!!"

I love to hear that and can't wait for future updates on his SAR and Agility! 💗

Just sharing a fun "stupid pet tricks" with Glory. Something we do as brain games that also doubles as a helpful chore 😆

She is due back in heat any day now and the breeding to Bacchus will be tried again 🤞🏼

💥 Meet Beefcake 💥

Beefcake is a 110-pound American Bulldog with the personality of Tigger mixed with the giant boulder that almost flattened Indiana Jones. His official job title? Professional Crash Test Dummy.

But he’s open to side gigs as a wrecking ball or personal space invader.

There’s no such thing as “me time” with Beefcake. 🛁
You’ll never p*e alone again, he’ll follow you to the bathroom to make sure you don’t drown yourself in the toilet. That’s love, people. ❤️

He’s 2 years old (born May 6, 2023), house-raised, crate trained, potty trained, and knows the basics of sit, down, loose leash walking, etc.

He’s affectionate, snuggly, and absolutely thrives on attention. He’s got energy, drive, and a lot of opinions.

Hobbies include:

Murdering sprinklers and hose nozzles 🚿⛲

Looking majestic while being ridiculous

Scaring away intruders with his “serious dog” face

Demanding snacks

Beefcake’s dream home:
🏡 No small kids, cats, or other dogs
💪 Experienced handler who understands guardian breeds
🥾 Active person who wants a hiking or jogging buddy
💞 Someone who appreciates a big dog with big personality (and lots of scary dog privilege)

He’s not for the faint of heart, but if you can handle the love, loyalty, and occasional chaos of 110 pounds of pure American Bulldog energy, Beefcake will be your ride-or-die best friend.

📍 Located in Southern Oregon
📩 Message here or email [email protected] for more info or to apply to be Beefcake’s forever home!

This August marks 20 years in the breed for me.

I bought my first AB, Cajun, in 2005. He was a driven, powerful, serious dog that really ignited my love for this breed.

In 2008 I was blessed with the opportunity to own Cuda - Valor's Big Bad Barracuda.

Cuda was an incredible dog with tremendous heart and unshakable nerve. So much talent, drive, intelligence, and versatility.

He was not only the foundation of my breeding program, but its cornerstone - the dog who shaped everything that followed.

Dog training has been my passion for over 25 years, 17 years of that in protection sports. In that time I have handled and trained many dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds, and temperaments both in my business as a trainer and for sport/protection.

This is a big piece of how I fine tuned my ability to read and evaluate the complex traits and behaviors in dogs.

When looking at dogs for breeding, training should not be something used to try and mask genetics.

Training should be used to test the genetics.

I have certain expectations and standards in regards to the abilities of the dogs I keep.

Certain things should come naturally and easily to the dogs.

I don’t like dogs that need to be developed and built up over time to be able to work.

I don't have time or patience for problem-solving a mediocre dog.

I don’t breed dogs for other people or for trends.

I value the guardian traits and the power of this breed that originally drew me in.

Actually being a guardian is a primary job in my house that requires innate behaviors and traits.

I'm not an easy handler, my dogs must be resilient to pressure and stress without redirection or handler aggression.

The dog must bring the desire and power itself, I am here to mold the dog’s natural gifts.

I am not here to try and manufacture grips or commitment or confidence.

I have never and will never sacrifice breed traits to make sport easier. I have stuck with American Bulldogs because I love this breed for what it is.

Here’s to another 20 years.
