Today we remember Jax.

Jax passed away peacefully at his home on May 23, 2026, surrounded by love and attention from his family.

For 13 years, Jax was more than a dog to his family. He was a constant companion and a steady presence. From the moment he arrived as a puppy, he filled his home with loyalty, intelligence, and warmth. He loved children and welcomed other furry companions. He was happiest simply being near the people he loved most.

As I sat with Jax and his family on a blanket on their back deck, it was clear to me how deeply
cherished he was. The stories they shared really painted the picture of a truly remarkable dog. Jax was very smart. He learned to ring bells at the door when he needed to go outside. He also taught this skill to his cat sibling. The little moments that feel routine in day to day life are often the ones missed the most.

Jax found joy in life's simple pleasures. He liked to relax beside his family, chewing happily on big bones. He just loved being together. In his final moments, he got to enjoy a special treat of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, a perfect treat that a beloved dog earned after a lifetime well lived. One of the greatest privileges of this work is witnessing the bond between the most loved
animals and their people. Jax’s family gave him a beautiful life filled with safety, affection, companionship, and joy. In return, he gave them unwavering love for 13 wonderful years. He will
live on in the sound of the bells at the door, in the stories shared about him, in the quiet moments at home, and in the hearts of those lucky enough to know him.

Today we remember Blue.

Blue's family shared this wonderful tribute posted below with me for him. He is so loved and missed. I am so sorry for your loss, he was lucky to have such a loving family.

Blue,
You came into our lives unexpectedly, but from the very beginning it felt like you were always meant to be part of our family. In the year and a half we had you, you gave us so much love, happiness, and comfort. You were truly the sweetest boy, and you fit right in with us like you had been there forever.

You had such a gentle and loving personality that made everyone around you smile. Whether it was getting excited for your Greenies, going on walks, or just laying beside us, you made even the smallest moments feel special. You had a way of making hard days better just by being there.

No amount of time with you would have ever been enough, and losing you leaves such a big emptiness in our hearts. We wish we could have had so many more years with you, more walks, more cuddles, and more memories together. Even though your time with us was far too short, the love and joy you gave us will stay with us forever.

Thank you for being such a loyal, loving, and sweet companion. Thank you for every tail wag, every happy greeting, and every moment of unconditional love you gave us. We will forever miss hearing your footsteps, seeing your face, and having you by our side.

You will always be our good boy, Blue, and you will always hold a special place in our hearts. We love you endlessly and will cherish your memory forever. 💙

Today we remember Sadie.

Sadie passed away quietly enjoying one of her favorite snacks-Bil Jac, surrounded by love and affection, on May 24, 2026.

Sadie’s story with her family began with an adoption from The Second Chance rescue, an
appropriate title for the loving and wonderful life Sadie would share with her people. She was her dad’s “Baby Doll” and there is no question that she was deeply cherished. The bond they shared was truly extraordinary. They had a connection only seen when two hearts truly belong to one another. She adored him completely and he loved her BIG.

One of the most unforgettable stories shared with me about Sadie was the day she became lost after following the man who had come to pick up the side by side for repairs. Frightened and far from home, she wandered miles away until she was finally found in a ditch, exhausted and scared. Yet somehow, through the determination of her family, the support of the entire neighborhood, and perhaps a little divine guidance, Sadie made it right back where she belonged. The reunion between her and her dad was nothing short of magical. It was a reminder to everyone who witnessed it just how strong love can be.

After the passing of her dad, Sadie was lovingly welcomed into the next chapter of her life with
her owner's daughter, who continued to adore her just as fiercely. She carried with her the love she had always known and remained surrounded by comfort and kindness for the rest of her years. It feels especially fitting that Sadie’s beautiful markings were heart shaped. She loved her people fiercely and accepted it freely in return.

Now, though she is so greatly missed here, there is comfort in knowing that Sadie has found her way back into the arms of the man who first called her his Baby Doll. A connection that special could never truly be separated for long. She will be forever loved and missed.

Today we remember Nora.

Nora passed away quietly in a lounge chair on her deck, surrounded by love and affection on May 8, 2026.

Nora was the first baby in her family. Her parents grew up alongside her and so many chapters of their lives were written with Nora beside them. So many of their adventures and new beginnings included Nora. She was even the flower girl in her parents' wedding, a role that was perfectly fitting for the dog so loved and central in her family’s story.

One of Nora’s most notable traits was her calmness. She had a quiet presence that brought
comfort and peace. She was simply content being near the people she loved and although she wasn’t a big cuddler, she would never turn down a belly rub. Though strangers were often intimidated by her appearance, it became clear within moments that she had an exceptionally gentle soul.

Nora was so unique in her quirky expressions. She lived life with one ear perked up and one folded over. She had eyebrows that were very expressive and could always bring a smile to her family. She found mischievous joy in stealing her canine sister Maya’s toys just to destroy them. The only toy that was safe were her beloved pig toys. Those she protected tenderly, carrying them around like treasured babies. Nora was a fan of the cold weather and loved playing in the snow.

More than anything, Nora loved her people. Her and her human sister Vivian shared a special
bond. Nora learned pretty quickly that Vivian was an excellent source of snacks which only strengthened their bond. Nora was deeply known and cherished. She was the kind of dog and member of the family whose absence changes the feeling of a home.

In her final moments, she was surrounded by the voices, pets, and love she had known her entire life. She fell asleep peacefully getting her belly rubbed one last time. Nora will be forever remembered. Not because she did anything grand, but because she loved and was loved so completely. She was truly one of the best dogs.

Today we remember Boog.

Boog passed away gently in the arms of his family on May 3, 2026.

Boog’s story began in the most humble of places, in a crawlspace beneath a patio. A year later, after his mom and dad were married in 2014, he found his forever home and stepped into the life he was destined for. Over the following twelve years, Boog was never simply a cat, he was a constant companion and a source of comfort and joy. He was the warm weight in his mother’s lap. He was the soft presence beside her through her days, ordinary and difficult ones alike.

When he wasn’t curled up with his mom, he could often be found basking in a sunbeam or gazing out the window watching the birds and squirrels with quiet fascination. Typically, he was accompanied by his younger cat sibling Mop, his best friend and partner in companionship.

Boog was wonderfully silly. He made his mom smile or laugh nearly every day. He investigated
the world by licking it, even trying out bars of soap. He delighted in surprising his mom by appearing asleep in the laundry hamper, tucked inside the shoe rack, or cozily nested in her purse as though it had been placed there specifically for him.

Boog had a fan club that extended beyond the walls of his home. Friends often asked for photos
of him because there was simply something unforgettable about him. Boog’s most notable
feature were his beautiful green “Disney eyes” that looked up at his mom with complete devotion. The kind of gaze that says everything words never could. What made Boog truly extraordinary was not only his charm but in the way he loved unconditionally and selflessly.

Boog was the comfort in his home during stress, illness, uncertainty, and hard seasons. Animals
like Boog quietly hold families together in ways that are impossible to measure until the house
suddenly feels different without them. His family now faces that absence together. His mom, dad, and Mop carry forward the comfort that Boog gave them so freely throughout his life.

On his final day, Boog enjoyed everything he loved most. He got a smorgasbord of food, watched “cat TV” out the kitchen window, and snuggled his family on the couch as he fell asleep one last time. He drifted off peacefully wrapped in love, safety, and companionship. Humane euthanasia is often the final act of love we offer our animals and Boog’s family gave him that gift with enormous courage and tenderness. He will be forever loved and missed.

Today we remember Maia.

Maia passed away gently on her bed surrounded by love on April 11, 2026.

Every family beginning is unique and Maia’s was nothing short of destiny. Her mom was visiting
an animal shelter in Jacksonville, North Carolina just to visit with and pet some animals. While she was there, Maia was being walked in to be surrendered. Her future mom noticed her right
away and commented how beautiful she was. When her previous owner asked “Do you want
her?” her mom’s answer was an easy yes. The rest, as they say, is history. From that day forward they shared a life filled with love.

Maia grew into the heart of her home. She loved her family in a way only a dog can, completely
and without hesitation. She was especially devoted to her human siblings, faithfully staying near even during bath time. She would wander into the bathroom and “talk”, not wanting to miss a
moment of their lives. She was described to me as an expert cuddler and that is easy to believe. She had the softest fur. Once she settled beside you on the couch, she stayed and wouldn’t move an inch. In those quiet moments, she gave a kind of comfort that words never quite reach.

While she was good at staying still when cuddling, she also had a spirited side. She was a runner and an explorer, drawn to the bigger world beyond her yard. She chased adventure more than once, sneaking away to follow her curiosity. Her mom had to share her missing poster on Facebook too many times to count. And yet, no matter how far she wandered, she always found her way back home. No matter how great the adventure, she knew home was where her heart was.

In her final months, her pace slowed. She found joy being still, basking in the simple warmth of
the sun. When I met Maia, it was evident immediately she was a dog who was deeply loved and had loved deeply in return. Her story is one of connection and fate, joined with her family by
being seen by the right person at the right moment. She leaves behind a home that feels a little quieter without her voice. She is deeply missed and deeply loved. She will always be
remembered.

Run free, sweet Maia.

I came across this post and thought it was very insightful. All of us want to do what's best for our pets and struggle with when exactly the right time is. I think that is evidence for how much they are loved. Euthanasia is often one of the hardest and kindest decisions we make for our pets.

Today we remember Athena.

Athena passed away peacefully cuddled on the couch in her living room, surrounded by love and affection on February 22, 2026.

When I first arrived at her home, Athena greeted me the same way she lived her life, wiggling and in motion. Even as her body grew tired, her spirit did not. She loved to be up, moving, and with her family. She exuded energy and could never just be still and lay down.

Athena wasn’t a snuggler in the traditional sense. She was not a dog who would curl quietly beside you. Instead, she showed her love with enthusiastic kisses, knowing nothing of calm or personal space. Food was her great motivator and her great joy. I am told she would do just about anything if food was the reward.

Unlike some dogs, Athena loved baths. This was particularly helpful because one of her favorite
ways to spend her time was playing outside in the snow or rain. She was able to run and play as it fell, the air feeling fresh and exciting. Her love of adventure also included long car rides. She’d watch the world go by, content simply to be going somewhere.

In the quiet moments before we said goodbye, I witnessed something beautiful. For perhaps the
first time in her life, Athena rested completely. She was surrounded by the people who loved her most, with gentle hands on her fur and familiar voices in her ears, she allowed herself to be still.

Athena lived her life with joy, movement, love, and unapologetic enthusiasm. She loved with her whole body, tongue included. She lived every day as if it were an opportunity for something wonderful. She is deeply missed and will be forever loved.
