Our Family Dog Was Taken From Us During a Health Crisis -- Milo Misled Us…

At this point, they have made it clear that they will not return the dog to us. Nicole Bonfiglio, the director, told us they would have no problem rehoming Reeces because she is a French Bulldog, even though the reason we were called in was because the previous foster was overwhelmed by the number of French Bulldogs she was fostering and also shared that so many are being surrendered. I have since been on Yelp and messaged with other people with terrible experiences with the Milo Foundation. There seems to be a troublesome pattern with their management and owner in particular. I hope that Reeces lands in another loving home where she thrives. Despite what I have learned about the Milo Foundation through this experience, there are other wonderful options for adopting when we are ready.

We are asking for your attention.

Our family fostered a dog named Reeces through the Milo Foundation. She was safe, loved, bonded with our family, and we were told we could adopt her. Then — without warning — that decision was reversed.

We have since received a direct message from the founder, Lynne Tingle, stating that our adoption was blocked not because of any concern for Reeces’ wellbeing, but because we spoke publicly about the experience:

“Well given your wife’s news outlet blitz calling her a surrendered dog, and other falsehoods, it is not likely we will choose you as adopters.”

This is not rescue. This is retaliation.

We are asking the Board of Directors:
Will you stand behind this behavior? Or will you step in and correct it?

We are still hoping someone on the board will act in the best interest of the animal — and of the families who step up to help.

We are asking the local rescue community to take a hard look at what happened to us — and decide whether this reflects their values.

We fostered a French Bulldog named Reeces through the Milo Foundation. She bonded with our family and we were told we could adopt her. Then, after questioning a sudden change in process, the dog was taken from us — not for any safety reason, but because we spoke out.

We now have a direct message from the founder confirming that our adoption was blocked because of our public posts.

This was not about the dog. This was retaliation against a loving foster home.

Here is the email from the Milo Foundation asking me to bring our foster in BEFORE the 30 day hold to get spayed. The 30 day hold is to assure that the original owner is given time to reclaim the dog and so a spay should not occur during that time. Now Milo is claiming the reason we don't have Reeces is because of the law for the 30 day hold that they themselves were not following.

This is what we are up against. Just received from the founder, Lynne, from the Milo Foundation.

Milo was not following proper protocol for a stray up until yesterday afternoon. Yes, she was a stray. They gave us completely different information on when we could adopt her, actually asking my husband to sign paperwork yesterday to commit to the adoption, before completely flip flopping within an hour. Apparently Milo Foundation wasn't following proper protocol up until that time, even sending us confirmation emails on when she would be spayed before the 30 day hold that we just learned about yesterday. Why would you then take the dog from us? We were willing to have her with us and wait the 30 day hold. This was not good for the dog or for our family. Your Director should have admitted you made a mistake rather than pull a power play with a dog's life saying we wouldn't return the dog when there was absolutely no indication of that.

Now Milo is claiming that we are spreading falsehoods because we said she was abandoned instead of saying she was a stray. They are now saying because of this they are likely not going to give her back to us. It feels like they are being retaliatory because we are exposing their poor management.

All we want is for Reeces to come home.

We fostered her, loved her, followed every instruction, and were told we could adopt her. Then that was taken away — not because we failed in any way, but because someone at the shelter didn’t like how emotional we got after being misled.

Reeces was removed from our family, and we were shut out — no answers, no compassion, no accountability.

We’re not interested in drama. We’re asking for what's right.

If Milo Foundation truly puts animals first, then they should return Reeces to the home where she already felt safe and loved.

We are still open to resolving this quietly, respectfully, and with dignity — for Reeces.

🐾 We fostered Reeces to give her the love and stability she needed — and then the Milo Foundation took her away with no warning.

This is our story. We’re heartbroken, and we’re speaking out so no other family — or animal — has to go through this.

On March 18th, we took in Reeces, a surrendered French Bulldog, after seeing a post that she needed a foster. Within minutes of meeting her, it was clear she belonged with us. She bonded instantly — snuggling with us each night, playing with our dogs, and beginning to feel safe.

We followed every instruction given to us. We submitted our application, cared for her around the clock, and even took her to the shelter when she needed medical attention.

On March 23rd, my husband brought Reeces in for an eye issue. He was told by staff that we needed to adopt her that day. Excited, we said yes — and then, just 15 minutes later, we were blindsided.

Nicole Bonfiglio, the shelter director, abruptly changed the story. She said Reeces couldn’t be adopted until April 18th, claiming a new 30-day stray hold rule. When we respectfully asked for clarification, Nicole accused us of being too emotional and said she no longer felt Reeces was "safe with us." She removed Reeces from our care and refused to give her back — even though we had done nothing wrong.

My husband waited in the car outside the shelter for hours, hoping to speak with the founder, Lynne Tingle, who was supposed to arrive later that day. No one told him she had come and gone. She never returned our calls or texts. Nicole refused to take accountability and had already sent Reeces to their sanctuary — without any discussion, explanation, or compassion.

💔 This was an emotional whiplash. A power play. And not in the best interest of the dog.
