Squid is a sweet boy and is currently in a foster home. His foster family says: "Squid is a shy rabbit who is slowly coming out of his shell. He now lets me pet him, and he shows his affection by licking my legs. He is a mellow bunny, who occasionally does his zoomies and binkies when given free space to run around. Most of the time, he is sitting or hiding under paper tunnels, sometimes munching on hay in his litter box. He does not have a tendency to chew on things. His timid nature may make him more suited for a quiet environment.

He is a very tidy rabbit who uses his litter box fastidiously both inside and outside of his pen. He does like to rearrange the position of his litter box and would sometimes move it away from the corner. But there is nary a piece of p**p outside of the litter box.

Squid enjoys eating, and can eat a lot of hay in a day. He loves all veggies and is not picky with any veggies that I have offered him, although carrots are clearly his favorite. He enjoys apple, Oxbow treats and his pellets."

Squid is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHDV2 (vaccine needs to be administered annually). House Rabbit Society recommends all rabbits see a rabbit-savvy veterinarian once a year.

Submit an adoption application for Squid at houserabbit.org. House Rabbit Society is located in Richmond, California, just north of San Francisco. Questions? Email [email protected] and we'll be happy to talk more with you!

Some of our rabbits took a field trip to the San Pablo library for Read to a Rabbit! The kids each got a chance to sit with a rabbit and practice reading out loud to them. It was super fun! We’ll be back next month, so be sure to reserve your slot with the library ahead of time.

Today is International Rabbit Day, a day to celebrate the joy that rabbits bring to our lives and to honor the love we share with them. We hope you’ll consider donating to House Rabbit Society in support of our lifesaving programs and services. Give now at houserabbit.org/donate!

Brioche’s journey with HRS began early this year, when he was transferred from a local shelter that couldn’t provide the level of medical care he needed. His right eye had been badly damaged from unknown trauma. It's likely his previous owner surrendered him because they couldn’t afford the treatment he required. Thanks to our staff veterinarian, Dr. Austin, and one of the visiting vets in our training program, Brioche underwent successful eye-removal surgery (enucleation), the very first that vet had ever performed on a rabbit.

Brioche recovered well and was soon adopted by one of our dedicated medical volunteers, a pre-vet student. Missing an eye hasn’t slowed him down one bit and he’s as curious, playful, and full of life as ever. Thanks to donors like you, Brioche can live a happy, pain-free life where he is loved.

With your help, we can be a safe haven for rabbits like Brioche. Your donations to House Rabbit Society powers life-saving educational and medical programs that make a difference for rabbits not only here in the San Francisco Bay Area, but around the globe. From offering free rabbit care classes on Zoom, attended by hundreds of people worldwide, to providing low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination services, your support helps create healthier, happier lives for so many rabbits. It helps train the next generation of veterinary professionals, distribute educational materials in multiple languages to shelters and rescues across the U.S., and sustain the rescue work at our facility in Richmond, California.

Don’t wait to give: every donation, no matter the size, helps build a brighter future for rabbits like Brioche. Together, we can create a better future for our rabbit friends!

Alt+Tab reminds us why we do this work: every rabbit deserves a second chance at love and comfort. Your support of House Rabbit Society makes it possible for rabbits like him to get the medical care and the happy future they deserve. Ahead of International Rabbit Day this Saturday, help us give more rabbits like Alt+Tab the second chance at happiness they’ve been waiting for. Give today at houserabbit.org/donate!

Alt+Tab is one of the most joyful rabbits you will ever meet. He’s very eager to meet anyone who stops by his pen. He has an unknown neurological condition that causes him to circle when he’s excited and sometimes will topple over. He doesn’t let any of it dampen his spirit though!

Alt+Tab came to us at the beginning of the year from a local shelter after being surrendered by his owner. He spent years in a small cage and was fed an inappropriate diet of bread and fruit. The shelter wasn’t equipped to provide the extensive medical care he needed, but here at House Rabbit Society, our veterinary team specializes in exactly these kinds of complex cases. When Alt + Tab arrived, we discovered a laundry list of health issues, including an inoperable lung abscess, severe dental disease, and a mass on his side.

Each of Alt+Tab’s medical concerns required careful evaluation for a safe path forward. Recently, he was neutered by our medical team at our in-house surgery suite, and had the mass removed from his side. Now, he’s been cleared for adoption through our Golden Ears program, which places special-needs rabbits into loving homes. Golden Ears adopters receive complimentary routine veterinary care with our staff veterinarian, as well as free annual RHDV2 vaccinations, lab work, and medications through HRS. Alt+Tab recently went to his first foster home, and they loved him so much they're now considering adopting him!

While we don’t know what Alt+Tab’s long-term prognosis will be, our priority right now is keeping him as comfortable and happy as possible in whatever time he has left. He was certainly dealt a rough hand in life, but with your support, Golden Ears rabbits like Alt+Tab are given the second chance they need and deserve at a better life!

When you donate to House Rabbit Society, your gifts not only help us be a safe haven for rabbits; they also help fund our critical education programs that help make knowledge about rabbit care more accessible to people around the world. This year alone, we’ve distributed multilingual flyers in Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Spanish, and English to nearly 100 shelters across the U.S. We also host free, internationally attended Zoom classes on rabbit care, health, and behavior, so that more rabbits can live healthier, happier lives.

Ahead of International Rabbit Day this weekend, help us expand this lifesaving work. The more people we educate, the more rabbits we can help. Give today in honor of our educational programs at houserabbit.org/donate!

Thanks to donor support, our veterinary training initiative is thriving, and now you can get a behind-the-scenes look in our newest YouTube video! As the only rabbit rescue in the U.S. with both a staff veterinarian and an on-site surgery suite, HRS is uniquely positioned to provide hands-on training in rabbit medicine rarely available elsewhere.

So far in 2025, we've welcomed 44 veterinary professionals and students from across the country—and even internationally—to train with our medical team. From mastering safe handling techniques to learning rabbit-specific anesthesia and spay/neuter procedures, these trainees take their skills back to their communities, improving rabbit care everywhere.
